So I am shopping around for a decent quality microphone here. I have been looking at the Zoom H4N and the Rode Videomic. I'm not the best at technical stuff, but from what I can tell, the Zoom H4N costs around 250 and has really good sound, but is external, so I would have to sync up video clips and the audio, while the Rode Videomic can be attached on top of the 550D, costs around 150, and has decent sound quality.
I will be doing films indoors and outdoors, and I just want something that is decent y'know. Like I don't want to get a microphone and then be dissapointed with the sound, just want it to last me. So any good choices? If you can see a cheap one somewhere please give me the link also. I'm in Ireland by the way, so I don't think I would be able to get anything off Newegg or anything like that.
Cheers for any help boscos.
Rode Videomic pro.
Hmm, well I did see a very cheap H1 or something like that I think it was called, it was only 99 dollars, and it was a small black thing, the microphones weren't adjustable like on the Zoom H4N but whatever. Can the Zoom H4N even record from a distance? Like is it more of an interview mic or what?
Haha holy chirst on a bike I have no idea what you just said man. I don't know what any of that is ha ha, so should I aim for getting the Zoom H4N? If I shop around I think I might be able to get it for around 200 euro? Unless you know of somewhere to get them cheaper?
I see I see. Well what about the Zoom H1. I watched a comparison video between the Zoom H1 and the Zoom H4N, and the sound quality sounded exactly the same, so since I am looking for just good audio quality, should I maybe get a Zoom H1?
The rode videomic (not the pro one, haven't used pro) is pretty shit but still an improvement over the inbuilt one.
If you want to shoot people talking, hide a dictophone or any mp3 player that records sound via a 3.5mm jack on them with a tiny microphone hidden in their collar or something. Then just edit the audio and video together.
It's a lot cheaper and has a lot better quality.
Or do something like this:[U]

A friend of mine has the rode videomic pro.
I'm not a video kind of guy so I don't know much but I think the sound is quite good.
Hmm I see. Well I wouldn't want to have hide stuff on the actors or whatever as it could become quite irritating if it ends up showing in a shot or have them moving, might create a shuffling sound. So any opinions on the Zoom H1?
