Rand Paul: Neither Bolton nor Giuliani should be secretary of state
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky on Tuesday condemned two of President-elect Donald Trump's rumored candidates for secretary of state.
Paul, a Republican who made a failed bid for the White House in 2016, lambasted former UN Ambassador John Bolton and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — both of whom have been reported to be top contenders for secretary of state.
After calling Bolton a "menace" in an op-ed earlier Tuesday, Paul told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that Bolton was "totally unfit" to be secretary of state.
"I couldn't vote for Bolton unless he repudiated his support for the Iraq War and repudiated his support for regime change throughout the Middle East, repudiated his call for immediately bombing Iran," Paul said. "I mean really, you want a diplomat in charge of diplomacy. You don't want a bomb-thrower." "So no, John Bolton is totally unfit to be secretary of state, and I hope that the Trump administration will say, 'You know what, he does not represent what Donald Trump represents.'"
Bolton, who worked in George W. Bush's administration, is a vocal proponent of the Iraq War, which Trump routinely disavowed along the campaign trail, insisting that he was against it from the onset — although prior statements showed otherwise.
Moving on to Giuliani, Paul said it would be "a stiff, uphill climb" for him to vote for confirmation of the top Trump ally, citing his approval of the Iraq War and his ties to foreign governments. He said it was "worrisome" because "that was a big complaint of ours with Hillary Clinton."
"And the thing Donald Trump said over and over again was that he was opposed to the Iraq War, and he learned that lesson that regime change in the Middle East was not a good idea," Paul said. "And yet I don't see Giuliani coming out with statements like that. I certainly don't see John Bolton — I think both of them have been big cheerleaders for the Iraq War and for more intervention in the Middle East, so I hope Donald Trump will pick somebody consistent with what he said on the campaign trail: The Iraq War was a mistake. Regime change in the Middle East was a mistake."

I heard about this, there's now a rumor that they are looking at appointing someone more sympathetic to Trump's views: Dana Rohrabacher, one of the few Republican Congressmen with an openly positive view of the Russians and Putin.
If Bolton becomes Secretary of State and Dimon becomes Treasury Secretary I might just die laughing from all those people who told us that Trump was 'anti-establishment' and the small minority of moronic left-wingers (joined by the anti-interventionist right) who asserted that Clinton was 'more dangerous' than Trump because of her support for military intervention.
Bolton makes me look like a dove and is one of the most nutty warhawks imaginable, and that is coming from someone who is very sympathetic and supportive of military action
Dimon is the definition of the 'corrupt establishment' that Trump supporters said he would kick out
Never trust a Bolton.

Dimon's out, Steve Mcnuchin is now leading.'

Edit 2: Scratch that HE'S THE Banker that may have caused the 2008 financial COLLAPSE!

Jeb Bush sends his regards.
I feel Rand Paul will be one of few- if any- Republicans with a modicum of sanity and foresight and not afraid challenge Trump when necessary to prevent damage to our country.
Perhaps Rand Paul should be Secretary of State.
Perhaps Rand Paul should be Secretary of State.
Libertarians hate foreign states and intervention.
Rand Paul will have none of that.
Perhaps Rand Paul should be Secretary of State.
Nah, he's busy being a senator. How about good ol' Ron?
Another Reason Bolton may not get secretary of State, He hates Russia with a passion.
Perhaps Rand Paul should be Secretary of State.
although I agree with him here, for the same reasons perhaps we shouldn't have an isolationist handling our foreign affairs

Wouldn't that be the perfect match-up with the Trump administration though?
although I agree with him here, for the same reasons perhaps we shouldn't have an isolationist handling our foreign affairs
I agree with you, I mostly just found it funny that Rand Paul specifically came out and said "nah, don't pick these guys," but didn't follow it up with "pick me instead."

I meant it more as Rand Paul wouldn't want anything to do with dealing with foreign officials or diplomats. Since the whole Libs love isolationism and hate outsiders.

I think there's something beautiful about putting a libertarian in a position where their belief system gets strongly challenged.
Yah, I would be sadden by having Bolton involved. Neocons are what caused the craziest of our Bush era problems.
Bolton would make people bend the knee though...
[sp]Watch as this thread slowly turn into what looks like GoT Fanfic talk[/sp]
Rand is right about both of them. Fuck having either of those guys as Secretary of State. I wonder if Yertle is going to chime in on any potential cabinet picks?
