On a normal day, the road from Irbil to Kirkuk streams with hundreds of tankers carrying crude oil, the region's lifeblood, across the borders to Iran and Turkey. But these are far from normal times, with Kurdish Peshmerga forces now in control of Kirkuk as the war with al-Qaida-linked fighters rages on just a short distance away. The highway is eerily quiet and peaceful.
Capturing the city and its huge oil reserves, just outside the area controlled by the Kurdish regional government (KRG), is a huge achievement. Yet victory looks far from glorious or orderly.
At the K1 army base in the heart of Kirkuk, now abandoned by Iraqi government troops, a dozen policemen still loyal to the prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, looked on in despair on Thursday as looters carted away goods, furniture and guns in the boots and on the roofs of their cars. "The Kurds say Kirkuk is the Jerusalem of Kurdistan, and yet they come and loot this base," complained Mahmoud, a 30-year-old policeman. "For the last two days our job has been to watch these thieves taking away everything here."
The fact that the Kurds are winning makes me very happy.
So, the Kurds are in on becoming a thorn in ISIS' side as well?

Kurds have been fighting them ever since they decided to attack Northern Iraq.
Good, Kirkuk should be the capital of an independent Iraqi Kurdistan.
I wonder if this is the start of a proper independent Kurdistan. I wouldn't blame them for breaking away whilst they have the chance.

Never going to happen with Turkey around, unfortunately.

They don't necessarily have to have the Turkish area to still form.

No you see. It is for all means an independent country, but Iraq is like, no this is Iraq specifically because Turkey would fucking start a war with them over a free one.
Turkish politics routinely involve; "Fuck the people to the east. Fuck the Armenians, Fuck the Kurds"

Like they have their own armed forces with over 200,000 personnel. That's more than most autonomous regions.
These are the people we should be arming and giving supplies to. Kurdistan has been nothing but friendly to the United States and other countries in the West, but we still treat them as a group of terrorist, it fucking astounds me.

Iraqi Kurdistan is part of Iraq in name only anyway. They have so much more autonomy than the other regions.

We helped them and they helped us when we fought in Iraq.
NATO(and EU) judges quiet a few groups working for Kurdish independence or helping/training the peshmerga as being terrorist organizations. I really cannot remember the full list, but groups like the PKK are judged as being terrorist groups, even though at points we have aided them, and they have aided us during the Iraq War.

aiding terrorists is a national pastime.

I find it really weird how Republicans love Reagan when his foreign policy was literally aiding terrorism.

Like he gave Iraq fucking chemical weapons.

why are people so skeptical to the truth
[editline]14th June 2014[/editline]
and more importantly why do people question it, and ask for evidence without even bothering to research it themselves before hand

"hey guys i have this great idea let's sell weapons to iran and use the money to fund nicaraguan death squads"

I think Kurds deserve their own land and country, specially because of discrimination of Kurds in Turkey and Iraq. I heard the most anti-Kurd stuff in Turkey this summer when i visited Istanbul. It seems like Turkish people really hate Kurds for some reason.
BTW cool avatar.

It's really funny when you think of it.
Sell guns to Israel to Sell guns to Iran to sell guns to Contras to export Cocaine to Miami.
Like Irans service rifle is a bullpup version of the fucking AR platform. A US weapon.

"Records available from the supplier for the period from 1985 until the present show that during this time, pathogenic (meaning "disease producing"), toxigenic (meaning "poisonous"), and other biological research materials were exported to Iraq pursuant to application and licensing by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Records prior to 1985 were not available, according to the supplier. These exported biological materials were not attenuated or weakened and were capable of reproduction. According to the Department of Defense's own Report to Congress on the Conduct of the Persian Gulf War, released in April 1992: "By the time of the invasion of Kuwait, Iraq had developed biological weapons."
- Riegle Report, 1994, "U.S. Exports of Biological Materials to Iraq"
You're welcome. I did a research paper on this topic once.

And you believe everything you read on the internet?
I thought it was pretty common knowledge that the Reagan doctrine fully supported Terrorism.

I find it highly ironic that a Republican president's foreign policy measures were largely responsible for the cocaine/crack epidemic in the first place.
Oh he did it intentionally. If you make a drug problem, you can claim a war on drugs in order to further the governments central power by further arming and militarizing the federal police.
