It's a new era, we tell ya. An era where Google can finally say that its latest build of Android is also the one being used by the greatest majority of Android users. For over a year, Android 4.1+ has been the most up-to-date build of Google's mobile OS, and yet, the greatest majority of those accessing the Play Store were using a build that was bordering on antediluvian. According to the official Developers Dashboard, the percentages have slid to a point where Android Jelly Bean -- which encompasses 4.1.x and 4.2.x -- now represents 37.9 percent of Play Store users. Gingerbread (v2.3.3 through 2.3.7) has fallen to second place with 34.1 percent, while Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3 through 4.0.4) holds down the bronze with 23.3 percent. Jelly Bean on my S2 has been pretty slow...
what the hell is with these names
what the hell is with these names
They do sweets... Apple does cat names...
Jelly Bean on my S2 has been pretty slow...
Its even worse on my Nexus S (modified S1) Jellybean is gobbling so much RAM in an effort to not lag I can barely keep two tabs open. Posting this article was interesting when FP had to re-load every time I switched back to it.
what the hell is with these names
Google likes sweets Edit: fucking ninja'd

But it's the only way Android gets close to other mobile operating systems with regards to fluidity. Doesn't say much for Google's long term planning when they made the 512MB Nexus S though.
Jelly Bean on my S2 has been pretty slow...
It probably uses more RAM, but I have no doubts it runs way faster than Gingerberd on my S2 (now with 4.2.2)
I got Jelly Bean on my phone about a month ago which is a genuine shock because it took half an eternity to get ICS to this thing. It seems to run just a bit better than ICS. ICS worked well, but there were a few issues that could pop up occasionally. For the most part Jelly Bean hasn't had those issues.
I don't even have the whole 512MB, the GPU gobbles 128MB as VRAM.
I know my S1 gets ~300MB before anything starts to use it. Like you said, 128MB goes to the SGX540, and the rest goes to the OS I suppose.
To be honest over 50% being 4.0 or greater is way better than I expected.
My S2 is on Gingerbread. Id update it, but i cant even find a working root for my variant of the S2
My phone is froyo :(
My phone is froyo :(
You have my condolences.
android needs at least 2 gb of ram to function properly
I broke my old Nokia N95 8GB last year after taking many years of battering while always working well. I bought a cheap Sony Xperia with Ice Cream Sandwhich. Possibly the most wank phone I've ever had, it's so slow and struggles even with the phones own software. And the touch screen is awful. Can't Beleive they sold this thing in its state. Thought we was at a point where you could get a pretty good phone now that works well. But the market is flooded with android phones that seems to me to have been rushed out, and its kind of put me off getting another when I might get a duff one again. Don't want to be that guy but with an iPhone (for all it's limitations) you know what you're getting and know it's going to work. [editline]9th July 2013[/editline] Only plus side of a crap phone is that because I only use my phone for calls, texts and the occasional face booking its battery lasts for about 4 days
android needs at least 2 gb of ram to function properly
I'm sure once AMD kick out a MOARCOARS ARM chip Android might actually run smoothly.
Don't want to be that guy but with an iPhone (for all it's limitations) you know what you're getting and know it's going to work.
Not to mention the significantly less OS version defragmentation on that.
I feel like this thread was made specifically to make me hungry.
My phone is froyo :(
mine is éclair lol
I also want to say that the people who has gingerbread are now getting eligible for their upgrade. My droid 3 is running ginger but yesterday got water damage so i have to take my upgrade attributing to the switch in numbers
My Droid Razr M got jellybean and all its goodness, but for whatever reason, Motorola must have decided to change only the contacts app UI, but not the phone or text messaging app UI, so it's all inconsistent and weird.
I feel like this thread was made specifically to make me hungry.
It is clearly a conspiracy by Google and the major candy companies of America.

At least you've got a pretty vast price-range on Android. If you want to compare Android and iOS, do it with high-end, updated Android phones like the Nexus 4, SIII, S IV or HTC One.
I'm still on eclair lol

I'm having to use that POS right now because my S3 broke, and it is indeed the most horrible phone in the world, please don't think it's an example of android at all, it's more just a really terrible phone that can't keep up with itself
android needs at least 2 gb of ram to function properly
hahahaha sorry but no it doesn't solid 60FPS is good, but it isn't a requirement for a 'properly functioning' OS [editline]9th July 2013[/editline] you're fucking deluded if you think that

It's slower, it loads a lot of stuff, but it works great.
android needs at least 2 gb of ram to function properly
I have a Galaxy S with 512 MB of RAM. The only issues I really have are from trying to load giant pages on Firefox.
