Have sex with your relatives. Catch nasty diseases. Assassinate your own children. There’s a good reason why Crusader Kings 2 is widely regarded as one of the most personally engrossing grand strategy games every produced.
If you’ve never played a grand strategy game, Crusader Kings 2 is a good place to start. Rather than give you an abstract concept like a nation to govern, it makes things personal – you’re trying to establish a dynastic line and rule the world. Worrying about whether your children are going to survive the STDs they’ve contracted, offing competing monarchies and exploiting religious figures is a lot more fun than just staring at a lot of graphs.
But don’t take my word for it – read these reviews.
(Great game)
20 DLCS? ugh...
An article written around a Reddit post that links to a screenshot of some Steam reviews.
News.
20 DLCS? ugh...
More than half of them are cosmetic DLCs (Music, Portrait Packs) that are insanely cheap. Then there are the major DLCs, such as The Republic, The Old Gods, Rajas of India and Sword of Islam (to name a few) that are seriously supportive to the main game.
20 DLCS? ugh...
DLCs are optional. When a new DLC is released, most of the content is given away for free in a patch. Paradox are surprisingly reasonable with their CK2 DLC policy; in fact, if you play multiplayer, only the host needs the DLCs.
Besides, the money i spent was WELL worth it.

This is my favourite game ever but how is this news?

The Game of Thrones mod is worth the money alone. Fucking amazing mod that fits the series more than any other game.
I wish I could finally put effort into learning what the fuck is going on in this game.

I was thinking of buying it, but I've never gotten to into Grand Strategy.
I bought it after reading about the Game of Thrones mod. Sadly I have no fucking idea how to play it. :(
I once made a gay, inbred, retarded, crippled dwarf king of France.
He was promptly assassinated by his advisor, making his four-year-old son King of France.
Then I invaded Spain.
20 DLCS? ugh...
4 of them are pretty much expansions, 3 or 4 are decent dlcs and the rest are just cosmetics, and some of the content is free like even if you don't have rajas of india the map is still expanded in the vanilla version to include india you just can't play as an indian

Start off in Ireland aka Tutorial island as the count of Dublin, start off as the heir to your fathers county (so you can wait or arrange a "accident" to figure out the rules of inheritance). You'll get a leg up on the rest of the petty lords in Ireland and the English tend to leave you alone until late game.
Or start in Spain if your into the whole sibling rivalry/kin-slaying simulator :v:
Are there any good lp's of this? Looks like it would be SS13 tier of hilarity, only found screenshot lp's though.
the forums have after action reports (AARs) which are kinda like LPs
almost every single one is in picture & text form though
Fuck it. The time has come. I'm getting this game as soon as I can.

this is one of my favourite games ever, the old gods is one of the best expansions for a game. kidnapping christian women and forcing them to be your concubine, sacrificing them and shit haha
Well I'm sold, I guess I'll buy it next time it's on sale

Oh alright that changes it. I thought it was those EA DLCs where you buy the game for 49.99 and get half of the content and then have to buy DLCs for 40.99 to get the all the content.
It is one of those games that seems really confusing starting off, but I promise that after a couple hours it clicks just how simple it is. Like seriously, after a while it almost seems TOO simple, except for the fact that its amazingly fun and time consuming.

Yeah, once i got bored of singleplayer, i joined a CK2Game of Thrones roleplay community. its pretty dope. like 20-30 of us get together every friday-sat-sun to play.
These kinds of reviews are honestly the kind that make me want to buy something.
i never touched a game like this
is it worth it. like is it something like total war rome or tropico or something
i never touched a game like this

it's nothing like total war the aim of the game is to create the most prestigious dynasty in the game, not to conquer the most land

Think total war but in real time and every battle is auto-decided; there isn't a battlefield portion. Ck2 is kinda unique in grand strategy through in the interactions of characters. I'd say ck2 is a mixture of grand strategy, rpg, and visual novel.
It's awesome because it's about a dynasty not a country like some GSG
