The chances of seeing Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 are “slim” according to the would-be director/writer. Back in October of 2015, Neill Blomkamp confirmed to the world via Twitter that his upcoming Aliens sequel was on-hold pending Prometheus 2 (Alien: Covenant).
I would pick Alien 5 over Prometheus 2 any day. Even with Blomkamp being one hit wonder.
Good, that hack has been piggybacking on Aaron Beck's success for too long
Where's District 9's sequel at.
While it would of been interesting to see i'd like to know what you would do about the game and the cancer tumor bit they added into the game that kills the host and alien 4.

I think the idea was to pick up where Aliens left off with Newt and Hicks still alive and ignore the Alien 3 continuity altogether.

I actually wouldn't mind paying 30€ for a movie ticket to see the sequel.
Oh well, we shall wait for it like 5 more years I think :v:.
Where's District 9's sequel at.
Honestly this, the Alien franchise is well worn IMO and there's still fresh ground with D9.
Oh man, I really thought they would simply attach this one sometime after Ridleys Alien.
I don't have that many high hopes for Ridleys Alien...

Oh man, I remember back when District 9 was hot shit. It was great
Blomkamp likes to push the themes pretty hard, but when I think of his movies my mind focuses on those rad as fuck fight scenes featuring down-to-earth, practical-looking sci fi stuff.

i think he just needs good writers to do well, he's great at the technical and visual aspects of film

Absolutely. He started his career doing 3D for Stargate SG-1 so he's got the background for it

One of my favorite Sci-Fi movies of all time tbh. It's a real shame everything else Neill has done is mediocre at best.
Neill has some serious talent but hasn't been put to great use I think. D9 is very good but Elysium and Chappie was meh
I love that this story is literally the result of one word uttered in a tweet.
I would pick Alien 5 over Prometheus 2 any day. Even with Blomkamp being one hit wonder.
why? Prometheus was far better than alien 4
and ridley scott's definitely had a good number of misses but i think his hit:miss ratio is still better than blomkamp's at this point
Honestly this, the Alien franchise is well worn IMO and there's still fresh ground with D9.
d9: apartheid with aliens
elysium: minorities with aliens
chappie: rappers with robots
d9 sequel: social justice warriors with aliens
i'll pass, thanks
Elysium felt like it got screwed by producers and executive meddling. Like it was afraid to delve deeper into the world it created because it was going to face repercussions. After D9, I find it hard to believe that he would let Elysium be so shallow. I haven't seen Chappie so I can't comment on it
Where's District 9's sequel at.
He said not long after release there'd be no point because he'd probably end up having to do a Prawn VS Human war film, not what he wants at all.
Why can't we just have another Alien movie with Colonial Marines? It'd be cool to have some sweet USCM action.
The main reason that I hate the AvP movies were because they weren't like the games (set in modern day instead of being set sometime around Aliens).
d9:

I don't remember Elysium having any aliens.
I don't remember Elysium having any aliens.
It's also not about minorities, it's about the rich vs. the poor.
I think a lot of the inspiration for Blomkamp's movies comes from real issues that are currently plaguing South Africa: its treatment of African immigrants and refugees, the insane wealth disparity and the growing gap between the rich and the poor, and, you know, how insanely horrible Ninja and Yolandi are.
But the dude really does love sci-fi, and he can bring to life very realistic and detailed science fiction futures that haven't been very common in cinema since the days of Cameron and Scott's 80s classics.
The Alien movie Blomkamp imagined started as him playing around with a concept artist and imagining what current day Ripley, Hicks and Newt would look like in a sequel to Aliens. And I really do believe that he has both the technical ability and the passion to make an effective sequel to a space movie about shooting bity aliens with the grittiness and humor of the two originals. I mean, it doesn't need to be another masterpiece. It just needs to not suck as hard as Prometheus.

Don't expect amother D9 movie unless another halo movie falls through the cracks
The chances were always slim. It's just gonna come down to how well Ridleys Alien Covenant movie does and what ridiculous expectation Fox probably has for it

Chappie got heavily dragged down by Die Antwoord, though there were some interesting action sequences and sci-fi/cyberpunk concepts thrown in occasionally. I hope Blomkamp really gets another chance to a good sci-fi movie again, without meddling producers (Elysium) or egotistical rappers (Chappie) messing with it.

Some more, for those who haven't seen them:

That behind the scenes BS about Antwoord is pure bollocks. Never verified and they've been tight with Neil long before Chappie even started production.
It's painful because the way they dealt with AI in the end was solid. It's not the be-all end-all just a gateway to greater advances.

Huh, did not know that. Agreed on the ending, liked the way they handled the concept of AI and consciousness.

The amount of South Africans and people getting gibbed in his movies make me really want him to take a stab at a Titanfall movie
