• Bowled by 4th career 300 and 2nd career 800 series...

I've been bowling since I was a little tike of about 7 and for the first 15 years of my bowling "career," I'd never bowled a 300 or an 800 series, even when I started averaging upwards of 200+. On my girlfriend's birthday (at the time, she's my wife now) in 2002, I bowled my first ever 300 and I was completely ecstatic. At the time, I was averaging about 203 and was steadily improving, but whenever I'd get close, I'd either choke or just get unlucky, so you could imagine my excitement, especially considering I was able to do it in the league I bowled in for quite a number of years. At the time, I never thought I'd be able to bowl 800, I just didn't think I was good enough to put together 3 very solid, consecutive games that were needed. Even when I bowled the 300, I didn't even break a 700 series, as I struggled later on in the evening. Fast forward to this past season. Averaging 221 now, I bowled my second career 300 in October '10 and with it, I bowled my first 800 series, stringing together games of 257,300 and 248 for the 805 series. Again, the 300 was exciting, but the 800 was met with little fanfare because we were one of the last teams finished that night, so almost everyone had already gone home. But this past Wednesday night was quite different. My friend asked me to join a summer league with him and his girl. It's a fun league, not really competitive. There are a few (4) good bowlers with 200+ averages, but for the most part, people join this league to drink and be merry. It was the last week of bowling this past Wednesday and we were fighting for first place. None of us really cared because the money in summer leagues isn't really good, but the team we were bowling was VERY competitive, to the point that after last week, at least 5 other teams actually tracked us down after bowling that night and let us know they wanted us to beat them because they weren't really friendly and just took the whole fun out of the league, so we sorta wanted to beat these guys, especially considering they whooped us pretty good in our only previous match-up. We only needed to win one game to clinch first place, but the other teams wanted us to really beat these guys down so they would fall a few more spots and not get a trophy (the top 2 spots get trophies). Again, trophies for summer leagues aren't that big of a deal to us, but motivation was high just because everyone pretty much disliked these guys. So we started the first game. I got off to a very strong start, with the front 7 strikes. The game came down to the wire, but my whole team finished strong and we ended up winning by 30. I bowled a 253 that game and we had already clinched first. After we clinched, two of the teams came up to us and congratulated us, but again reminding us that they didn't want us to just roll over and let them take the last 2 games. The second game, I bowled my 3rd career 300 game. It was a solid game from top to bottom, and with the exception of the 11th strike which was a bit tight, the other 11 strikes were pretty solid. We ended up winning that game by 40. After I threw the last strike, practically everyone in the league was watching and when the last pins fell down, in unison, they all pretty much jumped and screamed, it really was exhilarating. Again, this league isn't that strong, so they don't see 300's too often. When they do, they get excited; it really was a great feeling with so many onlookers backing me. A few people asked me if I had bowled 300 before and I said I had a few times, so they were like, "oh, then it's not that big of a deal to you," but I told them it's always a big deal bowling a perfect game. Anyway, we started the last game and I started with the first 3 strikes. One of my teammates reminded me that, at this point, I had thrown 15 consecutive strikes and had a chance at an 800 series. Usually at this point I'd get a little nervous, but for some reason, I wasn't, I was calm and just having fun. I threw 4 more strikes, giving me 19 consecutive and at this point, the entire league was pretty much awestruck, seeing if I could bowl consecutive 300 games. I ended up leaving a light 4-pin in the 8th frame and finished with a 266 and an 819 series. People were congratulating me left and right, telling them how they had never seen bowling that good before. Some 9-year old kid even wanted to pose for a picture with me, LOL (which I happily obliged). It really was a great night and just felt like sharing with you guys. Neat I guess, not thread worthy though.
Fucking awesome man! I have trouble averaging over 100 :(
You're spending far too much time with your cousin.
I can get about 80.
Do you happen to be Amish?
Bowling is awesome.
You're a winner.
That's awesome man! Bowling is a lot more fun than it appears, I honestly wish I was better, but I don't have the time or money to invest in getting better since it would never be anymore than a fun activity I do every now and then for me. Glad to see your having fun and going places with it though!
That's awesome man
High for me is around 150
