• UK head teachers: "Schools should not be fortresses - look at the US; that is not the route to go do

Head teachers' leader Brian Lightman called for calm and to "ensure we don't turn schools into fortresses". [...] Dr Bousted said relying on security technology was not the best way to improve safety, and she pointed out that if pupils were determined to smuggle in weapons into a school, a knife arch would not necessarily stop them. "If you look at the United States, it's not the route to go down." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-27206082
I doubt we would be down this road in the US if we took care of our citizens. Better schools, healtcare, gun laws, worker pay. I like to think these factors lead to violence. Crime rates in the US have been going decreasing at least crimes that are reported.

I mean, no shit crime rates are lower now, we don't have a massive prohibition fueled mafia problem right now. Crime in the U.S. is stupidly high for being a first world country.
I once turned my section of the classroom into a fortress and declared independence.

Also for crime rates decreasing lets take a look at FBI statistics on reported crime. 2013 (First 6 months)
Preliminary figures indicate that, as a whole, law enforcement agencies throughout the nation reported a decrease of 5.4 percent in the number of violent crimes brought to their attention for the first 6 months of 2013 when compared with figures reported for the same time in 2012. However, property crimes decreased 0.9 percent, marking the tenth straight year of declines for these offenses, collectively.
we don't have a massive prohibition fueled mafia problem right now.
Actually, we do. It's called the war on drugs.
What's funny about this is how my old school has since been demolished and rebuilt with huge spiked iron bar fences with CCTV literally everywhere, if it doesn't fall under 'fortress' then I don't know what does.
I'm not so sure about that I mean this school was a damn castle and it turned out to be pretty safe

Whether that wall be addiction, bankruptcy, or stress, it wouldn't occur if citizens were treated fairly, which they aren't.
I mean this school was a damn castle and it turned out to be pretty safe
Troll, basilisk, werewolf, murderer masquerading as teacher, infiltration by death eaters, and takeover by Voldemort. Not safe at all.
Troll, basilisk, werewolf, murderer masquerading as teacher, infiltration by death eaters, and takeover by Voldemort. Not safe at all.
Whoosh What is sarcasm?
Troll, basilisk, werewolf, murderer masquerading as teacher, infiltration by death eaters, and takeover by Voldemort. Not safe at all.
joke head

At the secondary school I went to for a couple of years the only tall fence they had was around the back of the special needs bit and was fittingly called 'The cage' by everyone.
Mine had a fence around the perimeter and two gates which were only closed outside school hours. I left in 2008 and it now has the gates closed at all times, and 54 CCTV cameras.

American schools have a distinct prison feel.
are you fucking serious they had a troll that fucking smashed some shit up in there and their health and safety was "yo guys don't go on this floor because you'll get FUCKED UP ROFL!!!!"
they expect their students to have a modicum of common sense and rationality in other words, only Hufflepuff house is fucked

A children's competition that has a very real chance of death where the children fight dragons. Also the place where wizard-hitler was educated.
also worth remembering that hogwarts basically houses an al qaeda training camp in the form of slitherin house aka if we put all the cunts and evil shits in one house what is the worst thing that can happen??? the conclusion to take here is that if ofsted paid hogwarts a visit, the least of their concerns would be the fact that a student got fucking murdered in the bathroom, and now regularly attacks students
I don't want his to be turned into a debate on gun laws, but weapons simply aren't readily available. Of course, bear in mind there are 3 types of weapons identified in UK law: made, adapted and intended. You can't really do much with the last 2, EVERYTHING can be intended for use as a weapon. But we don't have wholesale weapons manufacturers here, and although if someone wants something enough there are probably ways to get it, most channels have strict regulation. Short version, there's not point being paranoid. Anything can possible happen to you at any time, but it probably won't.
Short version, there's not point being paranoid. Anything can possible happen to you at any time, but it probably won't.
Yeah...teachers never get straight up stabbed in the jugular in the middle of teaching a class or anything like that...
Who are they trying to keep out of that school? Garrett the thief?
You assume the objective is to keep people out, as opposed to keep people in.
Yeah...teachers never get straight up stabbed in the jugular in the middle of teaching a class or anything like that...
This is the first time a teacher has ever been killed whilst teaching a class in the UK. Legislating based on this would be fucking retarded.
American schools have a distinct prison feel.
My high school had small rooms, white walls, and no windows, I hated never being able to see even the hallway from the class room unless the door was open.
This is the first time a teacher has ever been killed whilst teaching a class in the UK. But no....let's blame video games. :v:
Isnt the folks who shootout virginia tech or columbus victims of bullying? Why are these schools not having enough punishment for such acts against the people? Not talking about sandy hook and adam lanza though, that kid was clearly insane

I dropped out of sixth form before we were meant to move in to it, but I've since visited it and it's like a cross between a prison and a hospital. 8ft fences all around and shit, I bet it was a horrible environment
