Remember the Slender Man game we mentioned a couple of weeks back? It’s a terrifying indie horror based on the spooky Something Awful monster. You had to wander through a dark forest with a pale torch hunting for messages while trying not to look directly at the creature. It’s scary as hell.
GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY, a different team are creating a version of Slender Man in Valve’s Source engine. Fittingly, it’s called Slender Source, and this one will let you avoid a horrifying death with friends. Yaay!
It’s a work-in-progress deal at the moment, but the bare bones are in place. Here’s the challenge: “Players must work together to collect a certain amount of creepy dolls all while trying to avoid the abomination that is the Slenderman. The kick? No weapons.”
Sadly, nobody has ever invited me into the woods to collect creepy dolls before, but if they did I’m pretty sure I’d say “hell yes BRING THE SCARES,” which probably makes me that guy who dies horribly at the start of every horror movie. Thankfully, games like Slender Man, Slender: Source, Hide and SCP Containment Breach give us the chance to experience those scares without, y’know, the dismemberment. You can keep an eye on how the Half-Life 2 mod is progressing over on ModDB. Here’s an early screenshot showing the wooded environment, which is one of two planned for release. The other will be set in an abandoned hospital.

And that's all she wrote.
Not sure if it belongs here because its gaming news, so if a mod feels its in the wrong area please move it.
That screenshot looks really bad.
There's already a Slender Man game, wonder if this can beat it
that screenshot is the work of 5 minutes

That's an old w.i.p "only for testing purposes"

The funny thing is I did read the article and decided to post it anyway, I don't know what I was thinking

no u
Slender Man has yet to be properly represented on film and in a game. Everyone just rips off Marble Hornets version dubbed The Operator

In quality? Maybe. In popularity? Doubt it. People I know who have never heard of Slenderman and aren't avid gamers have downloaded and played Slender. Most of these people aren't going to own a Source game to begin with.
On they're moddb page
That's right! You can help with the production of Slenderman, and it's
fairly simple. All you need to do is model us a character model for the
Slenderman which is animated. We already have maps being designed, and
code being written, as well as props being made, and even music being
composed. All we need is someone to get us their own creation of the
Slenderman, references images will be added to this post. The first
three people to submit a model of their Slenderman will be put on a list
for people being accepted into the beta testing. So, we hope everyone
is interested in what we're trying to do!
:suicide:
Way to go, ideas guy
YES

Pewdiepie (god he loves to over exaggerate) and other big youtubers will probably make videos of this mod. And TF2 is free so anyone would be able to access the mod.

oh I forgot about TF2. Still, probably too much effort for the non-gamer. It would need to greatly surpass Slender to motivate them to go through the effort.

Well I guess that's ultra-casuals for ya.
They're not idea guys... they only need a Slenderman model, everything else is being done.
Why do they need help to model slenderman? It's a stretched humanoid with no face, and it's not like rigging it would even be difficult.

Anyone else quickly check to make sure it wasn't a gif or apng hiding a jump scare?

oh man you shouldn't have said that he's gonna get you now

Co-op kills horror.
How many times does someone have to fuck up a game with this concept before people realize it's a dumb idea.
Co-op kills horror.

Neither game makes slenderman look at all scary, and it really bothers me, because once you focus and look at him you realize how stupid he looks.

Quite possibly, but I have yet to see it.
I'll probably try this but I doubt I could get excited for it.
"You can help, we need people to do everything!"
*sigh* this either isn't going to get released or will be terrible.
What the fuck are you on about.
Did you miss the "We already have maps being designed, and
code being written, as well as props being made, and even music being
composed."
What in there shows that there is one ideas man. Come on

Oh I thought it said they needed to do all those things as well.
I am not good with walls of text.
