Obama says he's finding out 'whose ass to kick' over Gulf disaster
Is President Obama bowing to criticism that he hasn't shown enough emotion and outrage about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill? In an interview with the Today Show's Matt Lauer this morning, the president offered his most candid response yet about the disaster, bluntly telling Lauer he's been talking to experts about "whose ass to kick" when it comes to responsibility for the mess.
"I was down there a month ago, before most of these talking heads were even paying attention to the gulf. A month ago I was meeting with fishermen down there, standing in the rain talking about what a potential crisis this could be," Obama said, defending his administration's handling of the spill. "And I don't sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar; we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick."
That's a pretty sharp response for a president known for his cool-headed approach to situations. In recent weeks, as Obama was assailed by critics for not being expressive enough in his response to the spill, White House officials defended his reaction by suggesting voters would prefer to see concrete actions over empty "method acting."
Yet administration officials are not ignorant of polls showing the nation less than thrilled with Obama's handling of the Gulf. According to the latest ABC/Washington Post poll, more than two-thirds of those polled, 69 percent, disapprove of the federal government's handling of the spill. That's higher than the outrage over the Bush administration's handling of Hurricane Katrina.
He seems like the most "down to Earth" president in a while.
You don't get more down-to-earth than looking for the mooks responsible for a major calamity. Good on Obama.
Probably only a PR technique, but sure sounds good.

Obama seems to the most "person-like" president so far.
Annnnnd what do you think BP has been doing? It's not like this wasn't expected. Someone is about to get thrown under the bus who probably had little to nothing to do with it.

Good ole fox news, and their slander.
This is definitely a PR trick.

Agreed, he can't just go looking for a perpatrator because to be honest i don't really see one. Yes, BP could've handled the situation better but at least they're trying to fix it.

Yeah maybe that would have been a better way to put it.
Although news channels like :foxnews: are going to get on Obama for not being "family friendly", even though they love the hard core "F*** Yeah!" American people, this was the best news ive heard all week.
News runs slowly here.
The sad thing is, it is ordinary English pensioners who will pay the price. Obama is taking their money when they had nothing to do with it.
if you do not understand how companies work rate dumb
The Yahoo! comments make me sick.
Yahoo! comments always makes me laugh.
Haha, shows his depth and understanding pretty well.
I'm glad he's looking for the proper place to lay blame, rather than what seems to be everyone else's response, just blindly pointing at BP.
They contracted another company to run yet another company's oil platform. The only thing BP actually had a claim to was the paperwork.

Yeah the comments are pretty terrible but the source was legit.
Speaking of source, I added it to the OP. Sorry about that.

I'm fairly sure he's still going to lay the blame on BP, since it's easier to blame them then explain the situation to irate rednecks and give them someone else to scapegoat.

The first part of the sentence in the article makes sense..." Is President Obama bowing...."..If he was truly looking to see who needs their arse kicked, he need not go looking too far, all he needs to do is look in the mirror, the turd[/release]
I'm assuming that the yahoo comments are coming from people who can't vote, or understand the stresses of being president. He's probably my favorite president so far.
I will get on all fours and suck obama's cock if he pulls american soldiers out of iraq.
I love how everyone rags on about how he is incompetent, terrible, and an embarrassment to the US when *almost* all that he has been doing this past year or so has been cleaning up Bush's messes. Besides that, he really has been trying to improve America for the greater good. I mean, yeah, he *does* spend a lot of money. But, sadly, we live in a world where money is needed to make things better.

One thing I've noticed when I talk to my more conservative friends is that they think that the government simply throws the money away on nothing important, and that their tax dollars are going to waste.
It's like they don't even notice the government funded school they're going to, or the government funded roads they're driving on, etc. etc.
The poor guy's trying to help. Cut him some damn slack.
I like Obama's personality. Pretty chill dude.
Annnnnd what do you think BP has been doing?
Nothing?
Nothing?
BP has been financing and carrying out all the cleanup efforts, the feds are merely approving each thing as BP asks to do it.

They don't exactly have a choice.

holy shiiiit dude
Maybe he should look at his administration and the US Government for a place to lay blame. The US Government allowed this spill to happen and they aren't doing much in the way of cleaning it up or trying to fix it.
They are nearly as bad as BP.
