Russian President Vladimir Putin is among the 278 nominees for a 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, according to Peace Research Institute Oslo, an institution that closely tracks the Nobel committee's work. Putin, who of course is now at the center of one of the world's most dangerous situations — the crisis in Ukraine — has been "nominated by the International Academy of Spiritual Unity and Cooperation Among the Nations of the World and backed by Russian MP Iosif Kobzon, for his averting of an air strike on Syria after the chemical gas attacks in August 2013," PRIO reports. According to the Nobel committee, the 278 nominations for this year's prize "is the highest number of candidates ever. The previous record was 259 from 2013." We've reported before that the so-called NSA leaker, Edward Snowden, is among the nominees. Among others who PRIO says it has confirmed are on the list: — Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teen who was shot by the Taliban because of her outspoken support for the education of girls. She was a nominee last year as well. — Chelsea Manning, formerly known as Bradley Manning. The Army private is now serving a 35-year prison sentence for leaking the largest amount of classified information in U.S. history.
[t]http://static2.businessinsider.com/image/5232093ceab8ea8a68966704/meet-the-pr-firm-that-helped-vladimir-putin-troll-the-entire-country.jpg[/t] source
Ive got a suspicion the whole nobel prize spiel is a load of bullshit
He gets nominated every year, this isn't really significant news
Personally I'd like to see Malala Yousafzai get it. She's probably one of the few nominees that I think really deserves it.
So abstaining from bombing people is all thats required to get a nomination now? Yousafzai is someone who deserves a Peace Prize, Denis Mukwege is someone who deserves a Peace Prize, hell maybe even Pope Francis Not fucking Vladmir Putin and Bradley Manning What the fuck is this shit
What about the 14-15 year old kid that stopped a suicide bomber, he deserves it fo'rizzle.
The 2008 Russo-Georgian war comes to mine. Putin a peacemaker. hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheh
Ive got a suspicion the whole nobel prize spiel is a load of bullshit
I'm pretty sure every country send it's own nominee. Gee I wonder why Russia would send Putin
Maybe they're trying to deter him from making any brash decisions. I can't help but imagine some russian asssistant: "Niet, Mr. Putinz.. If we War, you may lose shiny medal." We all know how much Putin Loves shiny things.
If Obama got one, why couldn't he get one as well?
If Obama got one, why couldn't he get one as well?
Obama didn't invade Mexico
Peace Prize nominations aren't actually all that exclusive. Past nominees have included Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, and Castro. Still doesn't mean this isn't bullshit, of course.
If Obama got one, why couldn't he get one as well?
Obama didn't really deserve his either imo.
Obama didn't invade Mexico
Yet.
Obama didn't invade Mexico
Doesn't matter what country it is.
What about the 14-15 year old kid that stopped a suicide bomber, he deserves it fo'rizzle.
He died though. Nobel prizes are not awarded posthumously.
Obama didn't really deserve his either imo.
I remember one of the reasons Obama got his was because he helped to increase relations between the U.S and Russia. Well, look how that turned out. :v:
What about the 14-15 year old kid that stopped a suicide bomber, he deserves it fo'rizzle.
Because he stopped one single suicide bomber and then became famous for it. Not trying to downplay what he did, but if you look at the work some nobel peace prize laureates have done, it's quite impressive.

I should be a Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Ive never had a fight with someone, never done anything against anyone, never hurt someone Ive stayed in my room for a large part of my life on this computer.. what is more peaceful then that? :P
he didn't just stop a suicide bomber, he gave up his life i doubt any of the laureates would do that
A lot of people have given up their lives. If you're talking about the number of lives they saved, then people who spent their entire life to alleviate suffering such as Nobel Laureates like Norman Borlaug - "The man who saved a Billion lives," have done a lot more.
I'm not up to date, why not Manning?
Well why should he have one? For something like this there should probably be more "why" than just "why not".
i doubt any of the laureates would do that
wow how insulting. one of the nominees has been shot in the face for her work against the taliban. stop talking out of your ass
Wasn't Hitler nominated in 1939?
So abstaining from bombing people is all thats required to get a nomination now?
Obama should be nominated for not unleashing nuclear hellfire when he clearly could.
Let's nuke a small isolated country at random. Just to let the world know we're still serious
