Because he stopped one single suicide bomber and then became famous for it. Not trying to downplay what he did, but if you look at the work some nobel peace prize laureates have done, it's quite impressive.

A lot of people have given up their lives.
If you're talking about the number of lives they saved, then people who spent their entire life to alleviate suffering such as Nobel Laureates like Norman Borlaug - "The man who saved a Billion lives," have done a lot more.
