A Metal Gear movie has been announced at Konami's Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event. It will be made in association with Columbia Pictures.
Avi Arad (X-Men, Iron Man, The Amazing Spider-Man) will be producing and was on stage at the event.
"For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters - and video games are the comics of today," Arad said, as reported by attendee John Ricciardi on his Twitter feed.
There are no further details at this point, but Famitsu has some photos from the event.
2012 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Metal Gear series; the 'Tactical Espionage Action' series was first launched on MSX back in 1987.
Haven't they been trying to make this for awhile now? I could swear i remember them announcing they were gonna try and do this awhile ago. Anyways they better get someone good to direct it, assuming this actually happens.
Oh right it was back in 2008 http://www.cinemablend.com/new.php?id=11262 and there's been news about it pretty much every year since lol. Thread title fixed.
Kojima said he wouldn't want to go forward with a movie unless it were done right. Cautious optimism.
Avi Arad eh?
Well okay, I'll give it some optimism.
according to a guy at the event

Would be really interesting to watch if they got David Hayter to be in it.
He wrote X-Men 1 & 2; and Watchmen. I would like to see him as a screenwriter and playing one of the soldiers.
He did write a script for it, but who knows what's going on now.
meryl is big boss's sister and solid snake is big boss's second in command in the navy
If this is going to be a CGI movie like Advent Children. Fuck off.
I don't like this idea either, it should be called Metal Gear before they even do Solid.
It's gonna be like ten hours long.

gotta include the cutscenes, you know.
Do they really need another MGS movie? I still haven't finished watching the fourth one.
live action.....no thanks
Will confuse the shit out of the average movie-goer, that's for sure.
Eh...
As much as I'd like to see it done right, I am just entirely un-optimistic that they can pull it off. Unless it was CGI.
First of all, you could only really tackle the Shadow Moses story arc, anything more would be stepping into mindfuck territory or would require 4 hour long movies to explain everything, because the way Kojima writes, you cannot edit it down without taking huge chunks of information out.
Secondly it would inevitably be criticized for being a escape from new york remake/rehash, which to be fair, MGS really is based heavily on ESFNY. Although it'd certainly be different in enough respects to work.
But then you have the whole hollywood issue. Fuckhead producing companies will want to stick their non-creative fingers into the creative pie and inevitably fuck the whole process before it's even off the ground. They will want recognized, bankable names in the cast, if not the lead, when really, for this to work you need talented but largely unknown actors in the majority of the roles.
You also need a decent director. Problem is whenever decent directors hear the word "video game movie" they run a thousand miles in the other direction. So what happens is the production companies push these projects onto wet behind the ear directors whose last gig was a music video.
I could go on, but yeah, I really just do not see this coming out well....
Only watching if there is a Kurt Russell cameo.
I thought Christian Bale wanted in on this, what happened?
If it gets made it'll be great. But it won't get made. Go look at how many games Arad has in production and have been in waiting for years. Uncharted? That went terribly. Infamous? Fucking Mass Effect!
It just won't be the same if it doesn't have Hayter and Snake.
Even if it's live-action, I hope to fuck they use David, he already looks like Snake

First Metal Gear Solid 4, and now this.
I've always wanted a Metal Gear Solid movie ever since I saw the first Metal Gear Solid (note MGS, not MG), and now there will be 2 in existence.

only cuz his face is covered in facepaint
IIRC Christan Bale said he wanted to play Snake back in like 2008
as much as i love bale he doesn't look at all like snake
and hed prob just do batman voice which isnt nearly the same as snakes
Snake's voice is the voice of a chain-smoker.
Batman's voice is just silly.
kurt russell for snake
it'd be almost perfect
edit: though there would need to be a lot of magical face painting, he doesn't look as good as he once was
I could see movies being made of MG1&2, but not of any of the solid games. You're just condensing too much conspiracy bullshit into something that's less than three hours long.

hes already the original snake, he cant be the other snake too
Why do I not want this...
because videogame movies are consistently shit and this more than likely wont be an exception
hes already the original snake, he cant be the other snake too
yes he can
[editline]30th August 2012[/editline]
he can be anything
