• Dark Souls II producer laughs at the idea of microtransactions entering the Souls franchise
While Dark Souls II is developed with PC in mind, and with a release just a few weeks after the console version, it’s still a game best played with a controller, though Miyazoe is open to players with other preferences. “The current plan is [to allow] players to choose whether they want to use keyboard and mouse or a controller,” he says. “Both options will be available. Me being a console gamer and not a PC gamer, I would recommend a controller, but if you’re a PC gamer I’m sure you’d have a different opinion.” Asked whether From Software and Namco ever considered a Wii U port, Miyazoe bluntly replies: “No.” When asked why, he explodes with laughter. “Wii U never came up, and we never doubted that (decision) either,” he says. “It was more of a company decision, so I wasn’t the one that decided this, but I think the audience for the Wii U is a lot different from the audience for Dark Souls.” Similarly, From have no plans for a Vita version (“It’s not a handheld game, because of the network functionality.”) or for extending the Dark Souls brand in the same free to play direction taken by Soul Calibur, Tekken and Ridge Racer. Again, the notion draws laughter from Miyazoe. “Yeah, right!” he snorts. “Not yet, and not for a while I think. It’s one of our bigger IPs right now, but it’s a new IP, so I think it’s too young to go free-to-play. And with Dark Souls I think it would be hard to monetise in that way. Pay per death? That would be terrible. From Software especially don’t want to allow players to pay for an advantage. “For Dark Souls 2, we don’t even expect any additional downloadable content because we want to deliver a full game, the full experience, to fans who purchase the package from day one. We did do additional content for Dark Souls, but generally downloadable content for Dark Souls II is not really being considered. Buy the package and you’ll get the full experience, and you’ll have as much fun as anybody else. Spending a couple dollars on certain items does not help the experience. So no free-to-play yet!”
Source: http://www.edge-online.com/features/dark-souls-producer-says-pc-version-was-rushed-problems-were-expected/
i think everyone in the business needs to learn a few lessons from these guys
I like how he also laughed at the idea of a Wii U version.
here's a good weight loss method [t]http://www.theultimategamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/omni-Tread-1.jpg[/t] PLUS [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/archive/8/8d/20120918035710!Dark_Souls_Cover_Art.jpg[/t]
I like how he also laughed at the idea of a Wii U version.
that would have to be toned down so fucking much lmao
Even having the wii u controller would be toning it down. You have the inventory screen open at all times if you used the screen.
i think everyone in the business needs to learn a few lessons from these guys
I agree. No more pre-release DLC bullshit like what DICE does, so gamers don't feel like they're even getting the whole game on release. DLC is a stupid system, imo, i miss the Halcyon days of Expansions, which i'm glad people like Blizzard have adamantly stuck to. The one company i think did DLC right was Gearbox, you payed, what? Ten dollars? And got half again as much content as the vanilla game provided, for each DLC. Not this 15 bucks for map packs that are half ripped from the Single Player and half Nuketown rehashes.
I'm worried because he says "yet"
I'm worried because he says "yet"
It sounds like he absolutely knows the dangers of going free2play though, so if they do it eventually it would most likely be the good kind of free2play. I personally wouldn't mind because I haven't played any Dark Souls game yet because I'm too easily frustrated and getting it for free would let me try it out.
that would have to be toned down so fucking much lmao
Are you somehow stuck in 2003 and think that Nintendo consoles are strictly for the kiddies?
Are you somehow stuck in 2003 and think that Nintendo consoles are strictly for the kiddies?
I'm still pissed Bayonetta 2 is WiiU exclusive...
Even if there were DLC, it would be fine with me, because DS1 had DLC (and it was good)
I'm still pissed Bayonetta 2 is WiiU exclusive...
Bayonetta 2 is Wii U exclusive because literally nobody else would fund it. Nintendo went up to them and said "look, we need exclusives, you want in?" and funded them. No Wii U exclusivity, no Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta 2 isn't even going to make Nintendo back their investment and they had to have known that going in. The Wonderful 101, Platinum's other game, is an amazing game but it has sold like absolute shit. Just be happy that it's being made at all.
Thank the gods for that; such heresy should not infect a Souls game.
DLC is good when it actually adds new, worthwhile content to a game. But I think at that point you could call it an expansion anyway.

As much as I like the first game there is no way I'm getting a WiiU for a single game.
DLC is good when it actually adds new, worthwhile content to a game. But I think at that point you could call it an expansion anyway.
expansions are SO 20th century
I agree that the majority of the Wii U's playerbase is probably not going to be the same playerbase as Dark Soul's community, but I still would have loved to play it on my Wii U. Oh well.
While I'm happy that they've no intentions to put in Day-one DLC, I'm mildly disappointed that he is already dismissing any potential DLC in the future. Granted, if the full game explains everything it presents and doesn't leave anything to be questioned, then I'm fine with it. But if a similar case to Artorias appears, a character that were mentioned several times in vanilla Dark Souls but never appeared, then it'd be interesting to explore that in a DLC.
I could forsee a Wii-U version of Dark Souls being fun as heck; Skyward Sword let you perform about ten different attacks just using the Wii Remote with motionplus and I'm pretty sure something like that could be used to perform different types of attack like you'd be able to normally that if it were released on the Wii-U or wii remote controls modded into the PC version (if it's even possible) it would make an already absorbing experience far more engrossing.

They could just port the 360 version to the Wii U. iirc it took Treyarch about 4 months to port Black Ops 2 and Ghosts from the 360 to the Wii U with a team that had I think a little over 20 people in it. And while porting it they even managed to touch up the graphics a bit. But I can see what they mean. Most Wii U owners wouldn't really be their target audience. Plus they probably won't make the money back for the time and cost of porting the game. But I would buy a Wii U version if they did make one. [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] I already plan on buying the game on the PC and PS3, and I would buy a third copy for the Wii U.
Even having the wii u controller would be toning it down. The game could be exactly the same as it is on other platforms but have off-screen play because of the Gamepad.

Because as it seems to me, it's still a bit impractical, and am not fully convinced it offers any better experience than with your usual PC setting. (I'm probably in the minority here, but just my two cents.)
Even having the wii u controller would be toning it down. You could practically do that in Dark Souls I if you were good enough. Plus it would open it up to some combos.
What is this stupid looking monstrosity It's like Alienware designed a treadmill
yea but who cares what it looks like when its a cool is heck idea and advances input technology in a really good direction. its the next logical step bc it brings everything we've learned from similar high cost, less flexible systems and brings it into ur living space.
What is this stupid looking monstrosity
It looks pretty cool for a treadmill actually.
