Don't panic Friday if your surroundings erupt with
sounds and images more familiar in Kandahar
than Denver.
More than 100 emergency agencies will take
part in a terrorism response exercise that
promises to attract attention throughout the
metro area.
Simulated explosions will boom, smoke will rise,
and emergency vehicles will blare warning
signals as fake weapons are drawn.
The exercise, Operation Mountain Guardian Operation OMG , is
scheduled to begin at 5 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.
m. and will involve 14 separate locations.
The exercise is an opportunity for regional first
responders to react to a mock terrorist-driven
catastrophe.
"We want to make sure that people will know
this is what is happening on Friday," said Denver D
istrict Attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.
Most of the action will break out at five locations
over the course of the day: Park Meadows Mall;
Smedley Elementary School; Union Station;
Community College of Aurora; and Denver
International Airport.
Sky Ridge Medical Center; Denver Health Medical
Center and University of Colorado Hospital, will
test their ability to handle a surge of injured
patients during the drill. And Sports Authority
Field at Mile High Stadium "may have a small role
in helping to process the (pretend) mass
casualties," Kimbrough said.
Catholic Charities will serve as an evacuation
center where children from Smedley will be
taken.[/release]

Traffic will be utter hell tomorrow. I'll bring the video camera and record anything I see related to this.
Majority are going to call 911 without knowing its fake, called it.
Operation Operation Mountain Guardian?
Thanks. Now I'll know what's going on tomorrow.
Maybe I'll be the only person who does know what's going on for once in my life.

You're in Denver area? What part?
Sounds pretty exciting

I hope someone films the chaos and conveniently puts it on youtube.

Please, please, do.
I'm stuck at work most of the day. Closest event will be one of the hospitals doing triage a block away. I'm going to try to get out early and head to either Union Station or the college and get some footage.

Just skip work. You can go to work any day. It isn't just every day that terrorists stage a fake attack on Denver!
There were anti-terror drills in progress on 9/11 and 7/7 :ohdear:
what happens if there is real crime during this
what happens if there is real crime during this
Then the criminals are either geniuses or complete dumbasses.
On one hand, all of the emergency services will be busy in other areas of the city.
On the other hand, all of the emergency services will be in the city, with all of their stuff prepared.
You're in Denver area? What part?
Well, I'm not really in Denver, just nearby. Golden area.

I'm in Aurora.
I work in the Metro area and I'll record shit if anything happens.
We need a Denver FP meetup. Perhaps at the next bomb site?
16th street mall, tomorrow, 11:30
doesn't matter where, just scatter mob the place

Actually this isn't anywhere near where I work, since I work off Broadway. So, uh, maybe I can see the Union Station, but doubtful.
Sounds like it would be interesting to see, kinda sounds like the first entry on this article

I work at Broadway and Speer, the tall glass building that takes up the whole lot between 7th and 8th.
I live in Centennial, just off Colorado BLVD. We should have a FP gathering somewhere. Maybe take lightrail and see a Broncos game :v: Just kidding! The Broncos suck!
I recommend not the Lightrail.
I'm SOOOO fucking thankful I'm not assigned to that OMG shit. You should hear some of the stupid shit they're planning. Active shooters in like 4 different spots downtown. A bombing at Park Meadows and the bombers hijack a Light Rail. Probably some chemical attack at Union Station.
Maybe we wear gas masks and just chill at Union Station like nothing is going on?
If you live in Colorado, please give this post an informative rating so I can figure out how many FP members live here. I must know!
I would self rate but I can't.
OMG, I want to see it, I'm like 40 minutes away!
This actually sounds pretty fucking awesome. I wish they did shit like that over here in the DC area. Fucking badass, I'd be going out either with my fire station or with my National Guard unit and just generally look like a fucking BAMF.
Is this really necessary? The concept of a terrorist isn't needed anymore because Americans are all fucking paranoid as shit. Terrorism has already won because each and every one of you let it. :(

So preparing for it lets it win?
A little overkill, but its not like it like happens very often/at all.

There's more too it than that. Think of it like a computer stress-test. You run everything at full gear and see if it crashes/whatever and fix the problem from there.
It's a great way to see if emergency response can handle large-scale events regardless of what caused them. It's how you test every part of the chain of command, testing the breaking point of each one so it can be fixed. It's also great training and practice for everyone involved. It not only prepares for any less-than-likely large scale attack, but also natural disasters of any kind.
A bunch of fire stations and police get together at a local mall, and run mass-casualty drills every once in a while where we have hundreds of "victims" we triage and transport accordingly. It's amazing to test all systems and operations.
Couldn't they have at least given a weeks notice? I don't wanna wake up at 5 AM to explosions, and I doubt many other people want to either.

Did America get a weeks notice from Al-Queda saying they were planning to bomb the twin towers? No, and it shocked us. We weren't prepared, which is what the test is about. It's going to let the government or whoever is doing this, learn what they need to do in order to prepare us just in case a REAL attack happens.
Have you ever been at school and gotten a fire drill?

Sure it's a great exercise for the response team. But how much is it worth to the average citizen that is going to be effected by this? Also you could look at this as a military state run fear tactic. I'm just saying it's a little over the top.
