man why is dubai such a terrible place. a few years ago some teen on holiday was raped by convicts and almost got aids because of it.

It makes things like this seem more acceptable to those doing them because DRUGS ARE BAD AND IF YOU DO ANYTHING WITH DRUGS YOU ARE A BAD PERSON AND THEREFORE NO LONGER HUMAN AND DESERVE TO BE TORTURED. Any idea like that is taken to the extreme in more theocratic countries or those with a needlessly harsh legal system and result in behavior like this being considered acceptable and justified by enforcement personnel.

I heard about a father had like 1/00th of a gram of cannabis on the bottom of his shoe in the airport and they threatened to execute him on drug trafficking charges. Almost every aspect of this country seems wrong

Beyond that: - The food is shit, and the majority of restaurants are pretty average - The drivers are god awful - The road layouts are terrible, confusing and down-right retarded - Their domestic policies are laughable - There're 'labour camps' that are essentially compounds which house hundreds of 3rd party national workers on well below minimum wage - The building quality is awful and many buildings aren't fire safe' - The police are not only biased as fuck, but downright incompetent Honestly I could keep going on for a while. It's a really shitty place to live for more than 3 months. They once held my younger brother (13 at the time) at the airport on our way out because they had forgotten to cancel his residency visa when we were leaving. We had to cancel the whole trip and it was utter bullshit. Seriously, fuck Dubai. I'm glad they've had no oil money for some years now; the place is falling apart economically and everyone is moving to Qatar, Saudi or other Middle Eastern countries. Hopefully Abu Dhabi properly cut them off some time soon and they can go back to pearl diving. TL:DR Dubai is a nice place to go on holiday, but don't stay for more than a couple of months.
