The view from behind as Keith Carmickle tried to catch the ball. (AAP)
A US baseball fan has been saved from a potentially fatal plunge by friends and family who grabbed onto him.
Keith Carmickle, 38, climbed up on a table tottering over a 6m drop to catch a ball when he lost his balance and fell forward over the railing.
Only the quick reactions of his brother, Kraig, and his friend, Aaron Nelson, who managed to grab him, saved the 38-year-old from falling.
"I stepped up on the table, I missed the ball by two or three feet and went over. I thought, 'I've lived a good life,'" Mr Carmickle said afterwards.
Mr Nelson told reporters: "I grabbed his legs and his brother grabbed his arms so when he went over the ledge, we pulled him back," he said.
"He wasn't going down, I was holding on."
The incident, which occurred at yesterday's (AEST) Home Run Derby at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, comes only a week after another baseball fan, Shannon Stone, plunged to his death in similar circumstances.
Had a nice trip?
what the fuck again?
What an idiot. I bet, if this guy died, they would have put giant barriers and then no one will be able to catch balls ever again
Sports fans love their memorabilia.

You might even say... they could potentially injury or kill themselves trying to get it.
Where is a "..." rating.
I can't wait to see people leaping over the barriers at NASCAR races to catch flying shrapnel and tyres.
I suspect this of being staged, but the guy was drunk.
Still unusual, mabie he got the idea from the person who died?
You'd think after the guy died in Texas from falling at the Rangers game, people would be a little more careful
If you see the video and the pictures the whole thing looks staged by a bunch of his friends.
So the firefighter who tries to get a souvenir for his son plunges to his death in front of him, but the asshole who nearly dies because he's an idiot lives?
What kind of cruel, sick world is this?!

A very sick and twisted world.
You can "leave" it, if you want to.
But, you won't.

Not like this would have been the first death of a clumsy fan. I can remember at least two other recent cases in which fans toppled over the railing.
of course hes the lucky guy who doesn't fall and die.
Why couldn't it be that fireman :smith:

Well, shit happens.
Darwin award, so close.
I don't ever remember reading this kinda things in the news, probably because I'm British, but still that's twice this week I've read about people falling trying to catch baseballs.

Why are you acting like the death of the firefighter was unfair
It wasn't a less stupid thing to do just because of his position
Darwin award, so close.
no not really
Darwin award, so close.
Shame you missed our nice discussion about Darwin award bullshit in the other thread about the guy who did die.

They're both idiots who risked their lives. One lives, one dies, it's random luck. You think Ryan Dunn crashed his car and killed himself and the other guy the FIRST time he drove drunk? No, you can bet he drove home drunk many times and lived. Sooner or later though, the idiot's luck will run out.
Darwin award, so close.
Look mentioning "Darwin award" when someone does something stupid doesn't make you clever or funny it just makes you look like a tool
Americans really will risk everything for a second hand baseball huh ..

Yeah man I died for one
Where is a "..." rating.
That's what boxes are for.
no not really
I don't see why not but okay.

Look at all the fuck I give.

I don't see anything wrong with his(firefighter's) position when he was trying to catch the baseball
