I haven't watched the anime so I don't know how to feel about this movie but Willem Dafoe looks fucking terrifying
looks great, to be honest
it looks good, only concern is that hopefully ryuk isn't too forceful of him to use the notebook. he's just kind of along for the ride and doesn't want anything specifically, which is part of what makes the character so great. he's amoral, not evil, he's just really enjoying himself. [sp]light is the evil one.[/sp] dafoe looks and sounds amazing though

He didn't write the time.
I like how they made Ryuk's appearance blurred and obscured. This Ryuk looks better than the one in the Japanese live action.
It seems totally different than the anime, but I hope it's still decent. I'm not sure how this kid is supposed to play the whole mastermind role of Light, though. He seems very uncertain of himself.
He didn't write the time.
you don't have to, isn't it something like 30 seconds if you leave out the time? [editline]21st July 2017[/editline]
It seems totally different than the anime, but I hope it's still decent. Edit: 6 minutes 40 seconds, but he can change the time of death within that time period.
keep in mind that even though ryuk is egging him on in this scene, the guy literally writes "'decapitation" as the method of death without being prompted
yeah it could easily just be him egging him on. the scene just needs more context
I still don't really like Light but good god I can already tell Dafoe will more than make up for any shortcomings the show may have. Such perfect casting.

He goes full god complex megalomaniac so quickly into the series that what few moments of compassion he does have usually are off-put by how willing he is to toss anyone to their demise for his machinations. But the batshit strategies and circumstances he constantly comes up with to counter L and his sheer hamming it up keep him in your head.
Dafoe's voice is fucking perfect for Ryuk
Green Goblin is back, Dafoe was perfect, though Mark Hamill would of been another good choice.
light is so ugly in this
When I was watching the anime I even thought Ryuk in the english dub sounded like Dafoe
Light looks like a school shooter :v: Well if that's what they were aiming for then that's okay I guess.
I never really gave a damn about Death Note, but holy shit whoever was in charge of costume design did Dafoe's character right. Absolutely loving the way the camera and post-processing treated him, too. I'm on board with a few others in this thread - I'm more than willing to give this a shot, just for Dafoe. Doesn't help I'm just a huge sucker for everything and anything Dafoe. :pudge:
this looks dope as fuck. never read the anime or anything but it looks sick. EDIT: I just now noticed I said read the anime obviously I meant watch you fools
Light looks like a school shooter :v:
Maybe, but can we fucking talk about this guy? I think this guy might be a hitman for hire.
the problem i'm seeing is that they're both trying to be similar to the anime, and also trying to say it's not supposed to be similar to the anime ball has to be in one court or the other, it can't sit in the middle or nobody wins that aside though holy shit dafoe is perfect for this
Light just has this dumbfounded look on his face the entire scene. I'm used to Light being a hard boiled evil genius so it's pretty off putting. Though I'd watch the shit out of this anyway, looks really good.
Like others have said, it really puts me off that Light's first use of the notebook is after being egged on by Ryuk. I'll be fair to it and wait for more context, but I'm still really skeptical about this being good. My criteria for it being good doesn't include it being a step-for-step copy of the anime, but the ways it deviates from the original just seem to go against what the original was all about, at least from what we've seen so far. Like, why is his name still "Light"? No American kid is named Light. Why is Kira still "Kira" in America? It makes no sense. Should've gone all-in and made him a totally original character in the same situation as the original Light, not a new version of Light that gets everything about him completely wrong.
light is so ugly in this
He looks like the only thing they looked at when him picking was his headshot. Like when he's supposed to look afraid of Ryuk it looks like he's about to say "HAHA FOUND YA BUDDY MY TURN TO HIDE"
Like others have said, it really puts me off that Light's first use of the notebook is after being egged on by Ryuk. Remember that there is a guy whose first name is legitimately American. Hippies are wonderful, strange gifts to the world. :v:
I've watched every version of Death Note leading up to this and this doesn't look like the worst version of Death Note so far, but i haven't seen much of this version. Ryuk has been the best thing in every version so far.
apparently netflix gave the director the go ahead to be as gruesome as he wants with this. I think we're basically getting the final destination version of death note then if they really show this stuff
Why do you guys care so much about the way this one character is portrayed. Everyone is freaking out over the fact that Light is portrayed slightly differently. Just wait until the movie comes out and see if it works. It's not that big a deal.
it looks good, only concern is that hopefully ryuk isn't too forceful of him to use the notebook. he's just kind of along for the ride and doesn't want anything specifically, which is part of what makes the character so great. he's amoral, not evil, he's just really enjoying himself.
How to Use: XIX It is prerequisite for the Death Note used in the human world that living god of death makes sure that the humans in the human world use it.
Personally I'm curious about this version of the story. I doubt it'll have the same impact as the Anime but I'll still watch it just to see. Up till now every recreation has tried very hard to remain faithful, but this one seems to be more about trying a little something new. Light's behavior, the American setting instead of Japan's setting, and Ryuk giving Light a bit of a push to start his killing. These aren't bad things in their own, we'll just have to see how it turns out.
