Pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine's east have called for a ceasefire in Donetsk to avert a "humanitarian catastrophe".
Newly installed rebel political leader Aleksandr Zakharchenko made the call after other rebels said the army had taken a key city and encircled Donetsk.
Russia immediately renewed its offer to send a humanitarian mission, a day after Western powers warned against using such a mission to send troops.
An estimated 1,500 people have been killed in the four-month conflict.
Pro-Russian rebels stormed cities in the east and took over government buildings in April in a bid for independence.
But the government stepped up operations to retake rebel-held areas following the election of Petro Poroshenko as president in June.
How about a surrender, instead
Weren't the rebels claiming that Donetsk would be the modern Stalingrad a few weeks ago?
Looks like they were right. Have fun with that whole 6th Army thing.

Too late for a ceasefire, too late to avert something that already happened. Surrender, you fools.
Fuck no. Root them out, and put them all into jail cells for treason, terrorism, and conspiracy to start a larger conflict.
I hope that when the Seperatists do surrender, they at least get a say in government. Probably not, they will just be ignored.

They kinda forfeited their right to a place in formal conduct when they started an armed rebellion.

why would you want that
How about a surrender, instead
By the sound of it they're asking for a ceasefire to allow Russia to send them "humanitarian aid" which is Russian for AKs and tanks.
How about a surrender, instead
How about a mass suicide
Also
The city council reported on its website (in Russian) on Saturday that the city of 425,000 people had been without electricity and power for a week.
Is "electricity and power" supposed to mean something different than just electricity/power? Where I live we kinda use those terms interchangeably.

I hope they get deported, or exiled, or whatever.

When you start an armed rebellion, you surrender everything you have should you fail to overthrow the government.
They failed, now they'll pay the price. They threw away their legitimacy once they decided force was the only way to win.

It's Donetsk, sir! She don't have the powerrrr!

Fuel, probably. Diesel, Petrol, generators and gas lines. Electricity just means the stuff in the high voltage lines, usually.
They kinda forfeited their right to a place in formal conduct when they started an armed rebellion.
Eh, that's probably rather unwise; making a government less representative as a punitive measure won't end well. Can't imagine the IRA would've just eventually given up on the whole terrorism thing if they were refused a political solution, for example.
Certainly doesn't mean ignore their crimes, but they're far more likely to surrender and not resort to violence in the future if one offers them a way out.
I guess they are done with.
They've gone and Donetsk now..
Don't forget: They shot down a civilian airliner with 298 innocent people on board. And they looted the remains of them afterward. Those subhuman scumbags don't deserve mercy of any kind. All they deserve is to rot in a cell for the rest of their miserable lives after being dragged in front of an international court for their crimes. But I am afraid that the Russian government will hold their hands above those terrorists heads. They don't want their proxy army to get soundly defeated by merely the Ukrainian army.

Something tells me when the Ukrainian army fights through all the way and pushes the rebels back, a lot of them will run towards Crimea and into Russia and seek assistance.
And to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Russia turns a blind eye on them and they've got no where to go, Russia does seem to be a country that wouldn't want anything to do with the rebels after all the bullshit they've done, especially after that airliner being shot down.
If was ever Russia was ever gonna go rushin over that border, now would probably be the time.

Russia just insist the Ukrainians shot it down, they'll probably send troops in if the rebels start losing too hard.

Somehow I doubt Russia is going to do that. I think they want to keep this as a proxy war.

What I am basically saying is, if they were ever going to, now is the time. also you need two to really tango in a proxy war.

i've won every debate i've been in ty (at least in the sense people give up), it's gotten to the point I get far more ratings than any replies. feel free to change that.
why would you want that
IMHO it's not a terrible idea. It's a great way of gaining the moral high ground by basically saying "yes, you fucked up big style - but we still recognise your grievances and won't let a conflict get in the way of your right to air those grievances diplomatically."

This is arguably one of the most stuck up statements I have read on this forum. You don't just declare yourself right in every debate you have been involved in - that is not for you to decide. By that logic I can dictate that you are wrong by default simply because I say so.

Why doesn't it surprise me in the slightest that we got actual terrorist sympathizers in Sensationalist Headlines?
Seriously, we had North Korea sympathizers, people who advocated using molotovs against the police, what is next? People denying both World Wars?
