A multi-agency undercover drug bust in Texas spun out of control Monday afternoon when a civilian working for law enforcement was killed and a police officer injured in what has been described by the local press as a “Mexico-style” attack. The incident occurred in Texas' Harris County, where parts of Houston are located, when the secret operative disguised as a truck driver delivering a 300 pound package of marijuana was driving through the northwest part of the county to a rendezvous point. Out of nowhere three sport-utility vehicles carrying alleged Zetas drug cartel gunmen cut off the 18-wheeler truck and opened fire on the cab, killing the driver."We are not going to tolerate these types of thugs out there using their weapons like the Wild, Wild West," Javier Peña, the new head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Houston Division, told the Houston Chronicle. "We are going after them."As the gunmen opened fire on the truck, law enforcement officials descended on the scene in an effort to apprehend the shooters. "Officers engaged in gunfire with the suspects. That exchange resulted in the undercover officer being shot in the leg and the death of the occupant in the 18-wheeler," a press release from Harris County Sheriffs Office stated. So far four suspects, all believed to be Mexican, have been arrested and charged with murder. While the men - Eric De Luna, 23; Fernando Tavera, 19; Ricardo Ramírez, 35 and Rolando Resendiz, 34 – have all allegedly admitted to an affiliation with the violent Mexico-based Zetas cartel, U.S. authorities are still puzzled as to why the group would authorize such a brazen attack on U.S. soil for 300 pounds of marijuana."If it was a straight assassination, there were points in this controlled delivery where he would have just been a sitting duck," a law-enforcement source speaking on the condition of anonymity told the Chronicle. "Pretty brazen to kill a man over 300 pounds of grass.”The Zetas are one of the most violent and powerful cartels operating in Mexico today. The former paramilitary-wing of the Gulf cartel is considered to be one of two dominant cartels in Mexico, along with Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán's Sinaloa cartel. The group is believed to be responsible for the attack on a casino in Monterrey earlier this year that left 52 people dead. The sheriff’s deputy who was hit in the knee with a bullet during the attack is expected to be in the hospital through Thursday night, but will make a full recovery. Authorities are keeping quiet about who shot the sheriff’s deputy as the incident is still under investigation. They also did not release any information about the driver who was killed."Everybody is surprised at the brazenness," Peña said, according to the Chronicle. "We haven't seen this type of violence, which concerns us."[/release]

Wow, fuck.
don't worry guys, it'll all be worth it once we win the drug war.
I propose imprisonment in a bathysphere. One way trip.
Nothing says 'Fuck you' like being locked in a hollow steel ball and thrown into the deepest part of the ocean.

With an IV of water and nutrients so you don't just starve to death?
I like that sort of creativity you two, keep up the good work!

The way the Zetas carried out this attack doesn't surprise me in the least. The Zetas are known for their over-the-top brutal and disgusting examples they make of the unfortunate people that get their attention. The whole point is to gain image and incite fear. They want to make sure everyone knows not to mess with them and they want to keep the people within their organisation in line. The main purpose of these attacks is to send a clear, powerful message and they do just that.

This is a group who hangs snitches from bridges for everyone to see, are you honestly that surprised?
So, it begins then?
The whole drug war coming to America that is.

Unlike Mexico, they don't 'control' the United States. For them to launch such an attack on US soil is pretty unusual.
All this over a shipment of dank?
Winning war on drugs my ass.
Unfortunately for them, Texas is big on capital punishment and they don't take too kindly to Mexicans.
God damn, why do I have to be the one in Harris County when this happens :suicide:
They weren't doing this attack to get 300 pounds of dank, they were doing it for respect. Someones using their territory without giving them a cut or letting them know, so they killed him.

Also, texas will own the zetas if they go and try and act hard.
My ENTIRE family has at least 2-3 guns each, and that goes for about the entirety of texas.
I'm pretty glad we managed to get them. If this were mexico, they would probably never have charged a suspect.

Ofcourse you do. If I lived in america I'd keep a gun in every corner. Well I'd do so in latvia too but they are less legal and harder to obtain.
Would there be a downside to withdrawing troops from the middle east and having a smaller division deployed around the US Mexico border?

Just add a line so we can retrive the wrongly convicted and I'm cool.
I guarantee if this spills into Texas the governor will deploy the National Guard so fast it'll make you're head spin - Southern hospitality does not extend to terrorists.
Jesus, that one guy was only 19?

People say (I can't remember who) that that is not the purpose of the military.
People say (I can't remember who) that that is not the purpose of the military.
Its not. It's the purpose of the National Guard for domestic deployments.

No but the National Guard can be deployed if a State of Emergency is declared.

If the zetas spill into Texas, I really hope that'd happen (and it should). This is a clear and legitimate threat to U.S citizens, a lot more so than the Middle East was to the us after 9/11.

Yeah, I might suspect this is why groups like the Zetas haven't really been eager to make themselves known in the US. There would be a gun behind every rock and tree if they started working in Texas like they do in Mexico.
Haven't heard anything about the zeta killers in a while.
Those dudes are bad ass.
Edit:
There a reason why this comment was rated dumb or are some of you just a bunch of bandwagoners.

Perry has been wanting to use more military on the border for awhile. Now he has a valid excuse.
Hmm...
I predict within a year we are going to start seeing Zetas hung off the side of highway overpasses in Texas
Instead of being in the afghan we need to be in Mexico fighting drug lords and shit.
Once we take them out of power, we legalize certain types of drugs so no one can get that powerful again.
I hate to feed that stereotype about texas, but a lot of people own firearms specially farmers and ranchers. So at least the civilian population isn't afraid to defend themselves for the most part, but this is still a stupid move on the Zetas.

It might have to do with the fact that you think an extremely violent drug cartel (which is destroying Mexico) is "badass".
That's 134 400 grams which is worth like, $134400. fyi
So when are these cartels gonna be taken out? They are doing more damage in two months than million terrorists in a year.
