GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A driver who police say was driving recklessly was ejected onto a 5 Freeway sign in Glendale following a rollover crash Friday morning.
The fatal crash happened near Colorado Street around 7 a.m. when the 20-year-old victim was driving on the southbound side of the freeway at high speeds, hitting one vehicle with three passengers, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the victim's Toyota Prius rolled several times, and the driver was catapulted onto the sign. CHP said the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
The people in the second vehicle were said to be OK.
Two lanes were closed due to the accident investigation.
That's tricky
Wear your seat belt kids
This isn't the 50s
A clear sign that you should wear your seatbelt and stay below speedlimit. Good thing the passengers in the other vehicle didn't get hurt.
maybe I'm fucking sick but his body being catapulted up there of all places oddly amuses me, I mean what are the odds
I guess this is some pretty strong evidence as to why you shouldn't try playing Flatout in real life
Glad this moron didn't end up fucking up the people in the other car.
toyota prius
Does Bond know that a Prius has an ejector seat?
literally grand theft auto
toyota prius
Correction on article: Ford Focus.
Does Bond know that a Ford Focus has an ejector seat?
Holy shit I know where that spot of freeway is, the whole reckless driver part doesn't surprise me for this part of town, but the fact that he got launched all the way onto the sign is crazy
You can even see the dent on the sign, on the "St".
Geez, so the car basically rolled and flung him up there with the added momentum? Because holy shit that must of been timed perfectly
And people give me weird looks when I wear a seat belt in the back seats.
they're going to be doing action replays of that for millennia in whatever afterlife he goes to

Dude.
Dude.
Well, he should have seen not wearing a seatbelt as a sign of things to come.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
You mean he didn't survive getting flung at a sign at high speed?
GTA has lied to me!

Yea it's more like the 30s with these type of accidents happening

Your argument about the speed limit is irrelevant. The roads are built to handle much higher speeds, it's the legislators and insurance lobbies that keep it artificially low. The driver in this article was driving recklessly, which you can do at any speed.
On Liveleak there are videos, usually from Saudi Arabia, of guys drifting their cars then rolling them. Sometimes someone gets ejected at just the right moment and goes flying. So I can understand how if you combine that kind of rollover with a roadway with signs over it you're going to get lucky one day and see someone score a perfect landing on a sign.
If the crash produced that kind of force to send him flying that high and far, a seatbelt would not have saved him.
Seat-belts, when used in crashes with extreme force, can literally cut a person in half, decapitate, or dismember limbs.
Source: My sister who is an EMS and has, on multiple occasions, had to tend to people that had their abdomens cut open by seatbelt as if they were hacked open by a bandsaw.
Yeah, because getting flung out onto a freeway sign is so much better.

So let's make seatbelt laws not exist guys
Occasionally that isn't the case. My father survived an otherwise fatal car crash without wearing a seatbelt, his friend crashed the car into a streetlight which fell over and crushed the car, but he was flung out onto the pavement and survived with relatively small injuries.
That said, in basically almost every case imaginable you really should be wearing a seatbelt.
I got rear ended by an 18 wheeler once, spun into a car and into a wall, on a 200 foot tall bridge. Shit happens.
Can you imagine the terror when he was catapulted and waiting for the impact? He was flying through the air, clearly knowing he was gonna die, then smack its over
jesus. fucking scary. He fucked up and shouldn't have been driving like he was, no doubt, but what a terrifying way to go before the impact.

He would be dead before he even managed to be ejected.
Roof crush and shit, also he crashed into another car so he could have been killed there too.
[editline]wtf[/editline]
How many times will the source fuck up?
That's a Fiesta not a Focus,

Well. That's the thing some countries didn't introduce seat-belts until the late 80's

makes me wonder if we'll see any innovations in seatbelts, like some sort of smart seatbelt that is designed to release at a certain amount of force
