Valve's initative has caused several big developers to join them, by making their engines GNU/Linux and OpenGL compatible. Now Valve surprises us by releasing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for Linux without a press release or anything of the sort. The Windows and Mac OS Steam clients still doesn't say that the title is Linux compatible, but the Steam database states that it is. It is also visible, installable, and playable for people running the Linux client. However, initial reports from Linux gamers claim that the port is far from flawless, which may indicate that it's currently in an early test-phase, which would explain why Valve's decided to release it in complete silence. This is fantastic, I will buy it the next time it's on sale. Also, the store still doesn't show it's available for linux :v:
Yesss. Literally the only reason why I was in windows.
Tried it on my Funtoo AMD64 machine with the open source drivers for my ATi 4670, runs just about as well as on Windows. Great to see progress!
What about Gentoo?
I assume it runs like shit and is also missing multiple graphical features like dynamic shadows as well?
I assume it runs like shit and is also missing multiple graphical features like dynamic shadows as well?
Played a little bit yesterday. Performance is actually fairly awesome. It has all the graphical features of the Windows version and runs at near enough the same framerate with XFCE4 on Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.1 with the Mesa Radeon drivers. i3 2120/4gb DDR3/HD 7850
Also the fonts look better

Now the open source OS users can join the ranks and get sick awpshots like the global elite.
What about Gentoo?
the peak of human evolution
That's pretty damn impressive for Mesa Radeon drivers.
Yeah the improvements over the past few months have been fantastic!
Are the Mesa Radeon drivers the open-source ones?
Are the Mesa Radeon drivers the open-source ones?
Yes, I'm on the ones from the xorg-edgers repository.
Oh great and I was going to get a GeForce 9xx. Have the nouveau drivers improved at all?
What about Gentoo?
Gentoo does what Windon't
Oh great and I was going to get a GeForce 9xx. Have the nouveau drivers improved at all?
just get the proprietary drivers
Gentoo does what Windon't
Does it come with the bathrobe wearing man whose torso is wrapped in tinfoil?
What about Gentoo?
Well, considering Funtoo is a meta-distribution based on Gentoo, Gentoo should run this just as well as what I do, considering it's practically the same system (with the exception of being a slight bit behind maybe).
Will there be a Genuine Tuxxy C4 for Linux users?
We didn't even get CS birthday skins so I strongly doubt it.
My mouse feels like it has acceleration on it in CSGO but I'm sure I disabled it in X... makes playing a lot harder.
I assume it runs like shit and is also missing multiple graphical features like dynamic shadows as well?
Why would you assume any of that?
Oh great and I was going to get a GeForce 9xx. Have the nouveau drivers improved at all?
Nouveau is still largely junk for games, still young though. Nvidia has superior proprietary drivers where AMD has superior open source ones.
Why would you assume any of that?
the osx version did. kill cam showed shadows but normal play didn't
I assume it runs like shit and is also missing multiple graphical features like dynamic shadows as well?
You know what my mother told me about assuming things? It makes an ass outta U and ME. :-)
the OS X version of CS:GO is an embarrassment. hopefully the linux builds are better
the OS X version of CS:GO is an embarrassment. hopefully the linux builds are better
Well considering it just works, I guess? I mean, the performance isn't perfect yet, and there's still some shadow bug (I've heard, never seen it), but the former is just a matter of improving the mesa drivers further (which they constantly are).
Thats just hilarious, poor linux.
Thats just hilarious, poor linux.
What do you mean? It's fucking great!
What do you mean? It's fucking great!
Linux got 1 game up and whole news go apeshit. But honestly, no need to hate on me but i really dislike linux and i will stay on windows because its still best at everything, of course performance is bit lacking but if you got a good rig and a disk of backup just in case, you will be fine for rest of your life.
