• Mozilla is changing its look—and asking the Internet for feedback
Mozilla is trying a rebranding. Back in June, the browser developer announced that it would freshen up its logo and enlist the Internet's help in reaching a final decision. The company hired British design company Johnson Banks to come up with seven new "concepts" to illustrate the company's work, as shown in the gallery above. The logos rely on vibrant colors, and several of them recall '80s and '90s style. In pure, nearly-unintelligible marketing speak, Mozilla writes that each new design reflects a story about the company. "From paying homage to our paleotechnic origins to rendering us as part of an ever-expanding digital ecosystem, from highlighting our global community ethos to giving us a lift from the quotidian elevator open button, the concepts express ideas about Mozilla in clever and unexpected ways" Mozilla's Creative Director Tim Murray writes in a blog post. The company calls this their "Internet of People" theme and says it's "inspired by circuitry and tribal patterns."
[T]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jb_Mozilla_C_open_1-1400x990.jpg[/T]
This is simply a stylized "open" button, but simple designs are "in" these days.
[T]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jb_Mozilla_D_protocol_1-1400x990.jpg[/T]
"This design direction stems from the narrative theme called With You from the Start," Mozilla writes. Its colors are more subdued than the other designs.
[T]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jb_Mozilla_E_wireframe_1-1400x990.jpg[/T]
This simple black-and-white theme is titled "Wireframe World" and also harkens back to Mozilla's origins, according to the company.
[T]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jb_Mozilla_F_impossible_1-1400x990.jpg[/T]
This "Impossible M" design is supposed to reflect a maker community that Mozilla wants to court and is apparently inspired "by both computer graphics and optical illusions."
[T]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jb_Mozilla_G_flikflak_1-1400x990.jpg[/T]
This seems to be the most abstract design of them all (although it, too, spells out "Mozilla" if you look closely). "We searched for animalistic solutions, but built characters out of consistent isometric shapes," Mozilla writes.
http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/08/mozilla-is-changing-its-lookand-asking-the-internet-for-feedback/
[t]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jb_Mozilla_C_open_1-1400x990.jpg[/t] If you want to look like a knockoff Baskin Robbins, sure. All the logos look awful.
I don't like any of these :s:
I'm thinking the third one, but it looks more like a videogame thing
I'd go for this one [t]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jb_Mozilla_D_protocol_1-1400x990.jpg[/t]
The only one that looks remotely okay is that Moz://a one
They all look like crap.
i like the 2nd, colours make me think of keith haring
The second one looks like something taken out of the olympics for some african or south asian country
I like the first and third one
3rd and 4th designs are the best ones
Still better than Deviantarts logo
The fourth is probably the best (the first one is just too cheesy) but it's... eh. It's not what I think of when I think of Mozilla. It should be firey and loud, rising like a phoenix.
lmao what is even the last one supposed to be
I like the 3rd one a lot but it looks like a logo for a high class water brand
2016: The Year of Voting Between 2 or More Awful Choices
These are all pretty terrible. And the blog post that explains why they're doing the re-brand is a load of marketing talk: https://blog.mozilla.org/opendesign/now-were-talking/ It seems like they just needed to keep busy somehow [editline]22nd August 2016[/editline]
Less than 30% of people polled know we do anything other than make Firefox. Many confuse Mozilla with our Firefox browser. Firefox does not register any distinct attributes from our closest competitor, Chrome.
The only product they make is Firefox. Is it any wonder people confuse them?
Not to sound all high and mighty, but as someone who's actually had a college education which involved logo design, all of these are terrible. The only half decent one is the Moz://a one and that one just looks like some proof of concept thing someone slapped together in 5 minutes.
I'd go for this one [t]http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jb_Mozilla_D_protocol_1-1400x990.jpg[/t]
:/
The impossible M looks like something made from the eighties :v:
Firefox does not register any distinct attributes from our closest competitor, Chrome.
That sort of happens when you start changing everything in your product to look and run more like your competitor's.
The very first one looks like a freaking news website logo or something.
What's wrong with the current one?
The very first one looks like a freaking news website logo or something.
It looks like something you'd see on an energy drink can.
The very first one looks like a freaking news website logo or something.
Looks like a construction company.

All of these look horrible
Moz://a is ok but they should use a different font or something.
Looks like a construction company.
yeah, all the colors they chose for the logos are such bad choices. The open logo would look way better in not fucking fuschia and blue
I really like the fourth and the sixth ones
i like the second one but none of these are good they're too complex to be memorable tbh
