GUELPH, Ont. - A family didn't realize its home had been broken into until they found a bag with the stolen items along with $50 attached to a letter of apology from the thief. The thief wrote that the burglary was "the worst mistake in my life" and that the money would cover the cost of repairing a screen door broken during the robbery. A camera and video game console were pinched from the home in Guelph, Ont., last Thursday night, but brought back hours later in a green bag with the letter and apology cash. "I can't put it into words how sorry I am," the thief explained in the typed note, adding they were having financial trouble. "This is the first and last time I will ever commit a crime...Please find it in your hearts to forgive the stranger who harmed you." The note explained the thief felt "ashamed" and would perform at least 15 hours of community service to "partially atone" for the crime. Guelph police Sgt. Doug Pflug said the items were taken while the family was out walking their dog, but the robbery wasn't noticed until a family member found the bag outside the door the next morning. Pflug said realizing they'd been robbed was a shock to the family, who asked police to not identify them. "They were surprised," he said. "They didn't know their home had been violated." Pflug said police aren't closing the case, but explained the thief's change of heart doesn't mean they'd avoid arrest if found, since they could be wanted on outstanding charges. "Even though they say this is the first time they've committed a crime, how do you know?" he said. Pflug said Guelph last saw a repentant thief last August, when items stolen from parked cars were returned with an apology note signed "two stupid kids."
Source: http://www.globaltoronto.com/guelph+thief+returns+stolen+items+with+letter+of+apology/6442690199/story.html
That's something you NEVER see. Good job on his part. Still not a good thing that he did try to rob them though.
Chop off a hand for his crimes
Reminds me of that guy who robbed a bank (and I think turned himself in, saying "That's not how my momma raised me"). I think that guy got 15 years.
Canada.
Reminds me of that guy who robbed a bank (and I think turned himself in, saying "That's not how my momma raised me"). I think that guy got 15 years.
Wasn't the guy also homeless or something and he needed the money for food? And, if I'm not mistaken, he refused to take all of the money. He only took $100.
That heinous bastard! The window screen at Home Depot is $52! http://www.homedepot.com/Doors-Windows-Screens-Tools-Accessories/h_d1/N-arpfZ5yc1v/R-100552677/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051#.UBoXJE1Dx8E
My parents would throw out the note and still call him a fucking asshole. Sometimes I wanna punch my parents in the face, simply for the fact that they're usually really selfish.
At least he realized his mistakes and tried to atone for them.
You're thinking of the homeless guy who robbed a corner store out of like $100. He told the cops that, but was still sentenced to 15 years in prison either way.
Better than being homeless... Which really says a lot about our society, to be honest.
Thieves in Canada, guys. Thieves in Canada. Just kidding, a lot of those are assholes, never seen anything like this before. I hope that if the cops find he has no criminal record, they let him go.

What kind of cheap ass windows are 50 dollars?
What kind of cheap ass windows are 50 dollars?
the ones that are easy to break into
Things could have been worse. It could have been comic sans
I wonder where that $50 dollars came from
What kind of cheap ass windows are 50 dollars?
According to the article it wasn't a window, it was a screen door.
Heh, Sgt. Doug Pflug.
You're thinking of the homeless guy who robbed a corner store out of like $100. He told the cops that, but was still sentenced to 15 years in prison either way.
Wait, wait, $100 from a corner store. How the hell does that equal to 15 years in prison with any right minded person. What a messed up legal system.
It would be funny if the 50 dollars turned out to be stolen
It would be funny if the 50 dollars turned out to be stolen
I bet he had about 100 copies of this printed out, and spent the night going from house to house leaving a little bit of the cash he'd stolen from the last one at the next :v:
You're thinking of the homeless guy who robbed a corner store out of like $100. He told the cops that, but was still sentenced to 15 years in prison either way.
There was also a guy who robbed a bank for a few dollars and handed himself in (and apologised to the cashier as he was doing it) so he would get jailed, and in turn get access to free medical care for a condition he had.
I hate these kind of things. Different states, different laws. Different judges, different sentences.
different race too.
