As a person who's going through the legal route for immigration, I guarantee that if they saw the amount of paperwork involved to actually immigrate to another country, they probably changed their minds instantly.

I love how there's a certain degree of American exceptionalism at play when just anyone thinks they'll immigrate to another country and said country will just roll out the red carpet for them by virtue of them being American, as if that alone should be enough to grant them passage or permanent residency.
