hey I like gaming I just don't really see many benefits from it apart from entertainment, and I'd like to do something more benefical with my time and just because I'm not into it doesn't mean I think it's a waste of time, stop being so defensive you girl
what are you trying to prove by making this thread
I'd rather just sit at home and fuck around with my internet friends on TF2
Comp play depends on how you think. If you want to win, you like comp. If you like to fuck around and have shits n giggles stick your pub play.
Being competitive in gaming ruins it for me. Back when I first started PC gaming, I was so obsessed with KDR that it was no longer fun, it was like work.

Many people play and compete for money, you sit down, play for a few hours, go LAN and compete for prizes, considering the prizes it seems like a good gig.
Make a thread about LAN gaming, pointless...
If you actually read the thread I was talking about LAN gaming.
Even better.
I read it, it's still classed as internet gaming really, you're playing over a network against other people you don't know, pretty much internet gaming in one big enclosure full of sweaty guys hoping to plant the bomb in fucking counter strike.
Being overly competitive ruins the fun, that's why casual games like TF2 and Minecraft are so much fun. Also, you never said anything about why it's "good" in the OP.
Competitive video gaming is bad. Nowhere near as horrible as competitive wargaming, because you actually have to deal with the power-playing shits in real life.
I always play my games competitive, that doesn't mean I can't goof around with a couple of friends though. I still play for fun though.
implying it takes skill to play COD 4, oh you OP. I used to play competitive css, i prefer playing against competent opponents.
Jesus fucking christ, this guy is insane.
I've never cared much for competitive gaming, fair enough if you're making money from it and enjoying it, why not. But the word "gamer" in general, to me at-least makes you sound like a complete tool.
Why not compete in something fun like car racing, biking or snow boarding instead of geeking it up in your room where you never see any action except for the fake shit on your screen?
hi guys im a gaymer
But to win just a slightest of those prize amounts, you need an extremely well trained team. I've seen lots of Counterstrike tournaments which have high prizes and those guys are VERY good. like look at this one: it's not what all matches are like but if there are huge prizes, you can expect professional teams. Like these. also competitive gaming is not fun, you almost always need a team for that and it's frustrating to see a member doing a dumb thing which causes your whole team to loose.
Heroes of Newerth is a good example of why competitive gaming can be a pain in the ass, players take the gaming way to seriously and ruin the fun.
I don't mind that competitive gaming exists but I hate how there a quite a few competitive players who just ruin the fun for others. For instance in a lot of games there are weapons or items that are banned in competitive play. It really pisses me off when I'm talking about a game, mention nothing about playing it competitively and then one person just goes and tell me I suck at the game because I'm not playing with Fox only, No items, Final Destination, or whatever the game's equivalent is. I completely avoid the Pokémon thread on Facepunch because of the few elitist competitive players in there.
There's nothing wrong or nerdy with some comp. gaming, I used to do it back in the CS 1.6 days with a few friends. You don't have to be a no-lifer who treats it like a job to do it, we played probably a couple of hours per night, had a lot of fun and laughs and won a few nice prizes.
I wish I could have a bad-ass comp like all of Facepunch.:smith:
I used love going to gaming competitions. I started going to competitions after we had a Counter-Strike 1v1 competition. Even though I lost. Being the youngest gamer around, shit gave me instant fame. My name gets mentioned every time someone talks about counter-strike. I also my my name to the top 5 state counter-strike gamer but I decided to stop a year after that. It was fun being famous. Now, Warcraft competitions are held annually but I wont join them because it sucks. I also stopped because now they have increased the age limit to 17.
I prefer playing casually with my friends.
The only thing I dislike are the overdone frag videos (like the one you posted) with minute-long intros and lots of stupid filler. Hell, fragvids in general are retarded, as the only purpose of them is to wave your dick in front of other people and say "look how good I am".
You failed to mention the Electronic Sports League, quite easily one of the biggest companies when it comes to running competitions world wide.
While competitions are fun and all, it seems a bit of a waste to spend years learning a game so you can win against other people who have also spent years learning this single game when you could be playing all kinds of new games and having more fun that way.
Being overserious in games pisses me off, except when I play co op. It pisses me off when my friend constantly jumps down a hole or something when we are playing co-op. Or when in games like halo some asshole has to hit "x" when a game is loading.
