Greetlings, facepunch.
Now, in my experience this isn't the most sculpting orientated forum, but as it is the one I'm the most comfortable with, I'll bug you with my attempts at sculpting.
So, some time ago I asked someone what she wanted for a birthday present and she came up with the idea of me sculpting wolf Link from Twilight Princess. It seemed like an excellent idea that also saves me countless of hours wandering aimlessly in a store trying to think of a present so I took the challenge. Originally, I already almost finished a sculpture with plasticine but there were some complications with the steel wire that in the end completely ruined it, so after getting hold of some Super Sculpey, I started again from scratch.
I've been doing some sculptures before, mostly with plasticine, but I still consider myself an amateur. This work is also my first time handling Super Sculpey, so I had some stupid difficulties trying to work it based on my experience with plasticine, which was in some ways pretty different. I got here some picture of the model so far, which is almost ready to be baked, but the reason I'm posting this now is to ask if a greater amount of viewers can spot mistakes that I alone can't. Now, there are some things I noticed already, most obviously the missing tail, which was kinda stupid to leave out of the skeleton, but otherwise, feel free to comment and critique in whatever way you find necessary.
I intend to post pictures after the model is baked and finally baked if anyone would like to see them, but how fast I can manage that, I don't know.
Finally, pictures!

Wow, that's great! I love the detailing on the face.
One thing though, could you m,ake the individual hairs stand out more? 'Cause then it would be perfect.

Sure I can and I was going to work on the fur in any case, but that comes after any other significant changes because while working on it my fingers and tools would just mess the fur.
the pose looks alittle.. odd, it looks like he is being mounted!.
Looks awesome, except the pose which is kind of odd like krten said
it has the plz-ass-rape-me pose
the pose looks alittle.. odd, it looks like he is being mounted!.
Yeah, I kinda agree. The skeleton in his front legs is a little too weak which was an error in design by me and on top of that the sculpey itself isn't very rigid, so the whole model kinda bends downwards under its own weight. I'm going to support the legs in the oven, however, so once baked the posture should be pretty much ok. Hopefully...
But I am going to have to assrape him with his own tail in any case, so it's good for now.

Actually, I am a student of plastics engineering, so I've been playing around with the idea since the beginning. I could possibly use the equipment at school to make both the mold and the copies. The model is pretty complex for molding, though. For injection molding at least, so I guess I'd have to make a silicone mold and use some heavily plasticized liquid plastic. It would be an awesome subject for my degree work at least.
Unless Nintendo has something to say about creating copies of their copyrighted character, which would be illegal in every way.

The majority of the plastic industry is all about making shit products at low costs or else the customer is going to pay tons for it. Not as cool as you might think :(
its still sounds better then doing philosophy and ethics :C
Primarily I notice the back legs, they don't look right - did you reference from anything? Overall, this looks lovely however, you've taken care with the intricate details on the head and ears. I hope this turns out well in the end :3

I assume you mean specifically the right back leg, which does look kinda odd, but I did reference mainly the promotional posters of Midna riding Link, all of which didn't actually show the right back leg at all. I looked at tons of pictures of dogs from google as well, and even tried to get my parents' german shepherd to stand still for a second.
However, I just came back from downstairs with my freshly baked model, which has turned into a lovely reddish color. I thank everyone for the tips and I'll be providing more pictures once it has cooled down a bit more.
Well I guess it's too late to change anything now I guess and instead love it for what it is! I respect that you're using different material from your usual to.
So you'll paint this? :D (Please excuse any ignorance on my part)
I believe the girl will appreciate my efforts as well, even with wonky rear legs.
And yes, I will paint it with acrylic paints some time during the next week, hopefully. I came to spend the weekend at my parents' so I could fill their kitchen oven with poisonous and deadly fumes instead of my own, and all my painting stuff is back at my place.
Here's some more pictures. The first ones are a bit before baking, now with a tail and some furry texture. I used some supports while baking, so the pose should be ok in the last pictures, though the paws were damaged a bit, I'll try sanding them to fix it.
before...

it looks okay, are you thinking of making anything else?.
Yeah, it's okay and I feel pretty comfortable with the results since this was my first time modeling with and baking super sculpey. I still have almost two full boxes of it and I've always liked sculpting so I'm most certainly going to make something else. No spesific ideas for a subject yet, though.
Make a tank from L4D!
waht material did you use (again)?.
Make a tank from L4D!
I whore heartedly agree!
Also, I think your model is fantastic, I love the fur :)
Just the regular Super Sculpey: http://www.sculpey.com/Products/products_poly_supersculp.htm
Though I have to say that having gotten used to the pretty firm Roma Italian plasticine that I'd used before, it was unexpectedly soft. But then again, this was indeed my first time using it, so at least I've learned that much and I can keep that in mind from now on.
About the L4D tank, I'll have to say that I haven't actually played the game, so I don't have any idea about the character (though I think it's just that huge muscular zombie). I'll have to think some time about it, but thanks for the suggestion and kind words anyway!
awesome, were can i buy this super sculpty junk from if im in britain?.

?
thats quite expensive, how many sculptures do you think i can make with a 1lb box?.
That naturally depends on how big a piece you're making. The wolf I made is roughly the size of a hamster, maybe a bit bigger and I didn't use even a quarter of the box. The key is to fill the bulky areas with as much aluminum foil or whatever suits you as possible. And like I said previously, Super Sculpey in itself doesn't hold its own weight very well so a skeleton is necessary anyway.
Edit:
I tried to take some photos with better lighting and background, hopefully everything stands out better like this. Also I fixed the front paws and baked them with a hot air gun, otherwise nothing special's happened. I'll try to get some acrylic paints by Tuesday and start painting.

Get the super pack of 8lbs of Sculpey for £60, thats like £7.50 per lb which isn't bad at all.
Also the back/belly of the wolf needs to be filled out a bit.
God damn, looks good. I want to get into sculpting, but I can't be bothered.
Also the back/belly of the wolf needs to be filled out a bit.
Now that you mention it, it kinda does, yeah. I sketched something in photoshop and I'll try it out maybe tomorrow or Tuesday.

Thanks for pointing it out, anyway.
Yeah that'd look a lot better and maybe once that's filled in maybe the legs won't seem so strange.
Well, shit. Now I hate myself for painting this and screwing up the face. I noticed it was actually screwed up from the beginning, with the eyes not being level.
I spent the last 6 or so hours painting this and I find the bulk of the body pretty successful while the face is, well, a little odd. I tried my best to get a decent look to it and this is about as much as I can do. But I was pretty much prepared for this, I was aware that I'm not a very good painter.
But I feel I'm done with this, and in the end I'm very satisfied. It could've been a lot worse. Finally, I thank everyone here for the help and kind words, which I never seem to hear from anybody else. For your troubles I present you these pictures of the final sculpture. After this it goes into a box and under the Christmas tree.
