WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Air Force F-22 fighter crashed on Thursday at Florida's Tyndall Air Force Base, but the pilot ejected safely and was unhurt, a base spokeswoman said. The F-22 Raptor, one of the most advanced U.S. warplanes, was returning from a routine training mission when it crashed about 3:30 p.m., spokeswoman Ashley Wright said. The Lockheed Martin Corp plane caught fire when it hit the ground, but firefighters quickly put out the blaze, she said. The cause is under investigation. Nearby Highway 98 was closed for about two hours as a precaution. The pilot, who was not identified, did not suffer any major injuries, Wright said. The Air Force stopped flying the F-22 for five months in 2011 after some pilots grew dizzy at the controls. The Air Force blamed a shortage of oxygen delivered to pilots. Two F-22 pilots told CBS' "60 Minutes" program this year they had stopped flying the fighter because of worries about safety. The Defense Department said in July the Air Force was starting actions to lift flight restrictions over time, with most long-duration flights to resume this past summer. I'm glad the pilot is unharmed, and no one got hurt.
Did Florida die?

Rip. The plane died as it lived. Mainly used for training exercises.
floridian here, we're all dead
Im glad he escaped but there goes a couple million of our dollars.
Im glad he escaped but there goes a couple million of our dollars.
Couple hundred million*
read
Highway 98 was closed for about two hours
as
Windows 98 was crashed for about two hours
...
We're going to be even poorer now.
shit
what the fuck where is fucking madagascar
I live off of Highway 98. Though I'm closer to Hurlbert and Eglin than Tyndall, which is in Panama City. 98 Runs basically from Alabama to the Atlantic ocean. Straight as fuck road https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?gl=US&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=112976806396237612785.000447a2a2397c471ff40 Hurlburt is near the coast, zoom in once and you'll see it, and see how close the threshold comes to HW98. And off to the Northeast in the northern tan terrain, you can see where those fucking C-130's blow shit up every fucking god damn night keeping my ass awake at Eglin AFB
what the fuck where is fucking madagascar
alongside africa, where it belongs
You just know it's American design if there's oxygen feed problems
You just know it's American design if there's oxygen feed problems
Huh? Is there a reference here that I am missing?
Did Florida die?
im a floridian and i can confirm florida is dead im so sorry
well atleast hell couldn't be much worse than florida
You just know it's American design if there's oxygen feed problems
Do you know what you're even talking about? Also it's good that no one was harmed.
What? It's not allowed to joke about American planes here?
it's time someone took the subject of [American Planes] down a notch and you're the man for the job
What? It's not allowed to joke about American planes here?
The joke doesn't quite work when American aircraft are some of the best on the planet.
The joke doesn't quite work when American aircraft are some of the best on the planet.
You know F22 has had oxygen problems before? That shit isn't perfect :v:
You know F22 has had oxygen problems before? That shit isn't perfect :v:
Yes, I am aware of the issues the F-22 had initially. They were hard to fix because pilots weren't actually using the system like they were supposed to, which in turn produced results that test pilots weren't replicating because the test pilots were actually following proper procedure. Basically you are supposed to let the aircraft decide the O2 mix for the pilot. The aircraft will dynamically alter the mix and the pressure suit of the pilot in order to maximize the effectiveness of the pilot in extreme maneuvers and situations. Instead pilots were just maxing the O2 and leaving it there. The system didn't handle it like it was supposed to, but the pilots weren't doing what they were supposed to be doing. When used as instructed, the system worked great, which was why only some pilots were affected (the ones who didn't pay attention during training apparently) and it was so hard to track down.
Im glad he escaped but there goes a couple million of our dollars.

Couple hundred million*
735 million to be exact. Money well spent. :v:
735 million to be exact. Money well spent. :v:
An F22 does not cost 735 million dollars... Closer to 150 million.
