Ten years ago Shaun Smith was an enforcer for one of the biggest crime families in Liverpool and embroiled in a war against a rival drug gang. Shaun introduced urban terrorism to the British underworld. He sprayed up houses with machine guns, tortured people and used homemade napalm to firebomb his enemies. Today, after a spell of five years in prison for firearms offences, he is trying to transfer those skills to the legal economy by working as a debt collector in the northern English satellite town of Warrington.
[editline]24th July 2013[/editline] I'm from Warrington, and it's very strange learning about just a small portion of the underworld. I went to school with Davey (in part 2 of the movie) and he has since passed away. I can only assume it was in some way related to the events detailed by the documentary.
theres rumours going that davey fell out a window or overdosed, not sure what to believe
that shit is fucking scary. I know that an underground like this exists, but my naive mind always tells me that no human would ever go this far
that shit is fucking scary. I know that an underground like this exists, but my naive mind always tells me that no human would ever go this far
I'd say this is pretty tame to be fair, there's most likely a lot worse out there.
Really didn't expect the part about male rape. Geez.
That was fucking mad
Really didn't expect the part about male rape. Geez.
The logic around is is sound though sadly.
I'd say this is pretty tame to be fair, there's most likely a lot worse out there.
Im pretty sure they are appearing as tame as they can be for the camera. He even says he won't say what he's done to people or he'll go to prison.
Here's another good topic related documentary from Vice
Vice are so good at documentaries. I really like the one about the drug dealer, and the one about the busker in NYC
British gangsters intimidate me more than any other nations.
Fooking Scouse like! Liverpudlian gangsters seems like a low budget Guy Ritchie film version.
This doco really does a good job portraying the underworld and shows a more down to earth approach on the reality of these situations. Usually in docos like this they don't show alot of the raw footage.
you don't really know what vice is, right? that's the exact point of their documentaries.
I wasn't clear enough. Of course i know what vice is, i was complementing them by comparing them to other docos, VICE documentaries are superior to alot of other docos because they're more upfront and they don't remove good footage which most other journalists would consider darker in nature.
Hehe they changed the name.
That was depressing
That guy who slashed himself up was a bit nuts. Then again they're all a bit nuts. Not sure what kind of mentality you must have to torture someone. I had no sympathy for him at any point when he started trying to give a sob story about how hard it is at times because he has nobody to turn to. Just a bunch of horrible people.
