A US boy has been arrested for allegedly killing his mother with a rifle he received as a Christmas present.
Deborah McVay, 46, died from a single gunshot wound to the back of her head in her Ohio home.
The unidentified 10-year-old was apparently arguing with his mother over chores, and was supposed to bring in firewood from the yard, KTLA reports.
The boy's 15-year-old sister witnessed the shooting and told Fox 8 News that the boy went to his room, loaded the .22 caliber rifle and shot their mum.
The boy then ran to a neighbour's home across the street and asked her to call an ambulance.
AOL News said police received an emergency phone call at around 6pm on Sunday night.
Chief Nathan Fritz of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office said the boy told the neighbour he needed the police because he had just shot his mum.
Police arrived at the Big Prairie home and found the mother-of-four in her living room, lying face down.
She was pronounced dead in the home.
Buelah Mae Mike, Deborah's mother and grandmother to the boy, told Fox 8 News she believed the shooting "had to be an accident".
"He was too young to have a gun," Mike said.
McVay's oldest son, Josh, said his mother was a "very loving lady" who ran her own health care company for the mentally challenged.
Josh said he forgives his little brother and wants him to come home as soon as possible.
The boy is being held in a juvenile detention centre and pleaded not guilty at a hearing on Monday
That is depressing as fuck.

Who gives their 10-year-old son a rifle?
I mean, seriously.
That is really sad. But why the fuck would you give a ten year old a rifle?
who gives .22 bullets to a 10 year old
That's what you get for thinking a rifle is a good gift for a 10-year-old.
This is why you
A) Lock guns away in a cabinet/safe
B) Teach everyone in the house gun safety

C) Don't buy a gun for a 10 year old boy, and argue about chores afterwards.

That too, but I know of some 10-year-olds who I would trust shooting a gun under close supervision.
Not keep it in their room with the ammo, but yeah, I'd trust a 10-year-old shooting a .22.
And he must've had an intent to kill her, I've fired a .22 myself, those things are pea-shooters with pretty small stopping power.

He shot her in the head.

Yeah, you don't "accidentally" kill your mom by shooting her in the back of the head.
Who gives their 10-year-old son a rifle?

I got my first .22 when I was 5, but then again I'm not fucked in the head.
Things like this are reasons why getting guns gets harder and harder. I'll never get a damn rifle.
"pleaded not guilty"
Is it bad that I wish there was an instant death penalty for pleading not guilty when it's already confirmed beyond any possible doubt you did the crime? wasting court time and money, fucking filth
uhhhhhh
what the fuck
no like really what the fuck I don't even know where to begin with this one so I don't think I'm even going to bother
all I can say is FUCKING WOW
if the mom and sister had guns this wouldn't have happened

I find it a relieving thought that people like you aren't making our laws then.
But yeah, who gives a gun to a kid, doesn't supervise them, gives them ammo, lets them keep the gun in their possession and... oh my god people like this are the reason 2nd amendment rights are having a tough time in our country right now.
Why would they give a 10 year old a rifle? If he didn't mean to kill her, she shouldn't have shot her.
B) Teach everyone in the house gun safety
Uh gun safety has nothing to do with this. It's not like he 'accidentally' shot her in the back of the head.
First thing's first...
WHY DID A 10 YEAR OLD GET A .22?
She ran a health care company for the mentally challenged.
You have to be mentally challenged to give a 10-year old kid a rifle, so I guess she was also a customer.
I seriously laughed my ass off when I saw the last name.
hint: OKERHOMER
I'm surprised by the fact that the son loaded the rifle himself.
And pleading not guilty? Go die in a car fire you son of a dead bitch
pleaded not guilty
The fuck?! To deathrow you must go! Bitch!

ITT: Mother gives gun to child like an idiot, child kills her, 'DEATHN SENTEBNAceE11'
It's true. And you know it, the fault stemmed from the MOTHER, not the child.
How fucking lame.
What a richard-head.
that boy ain't normal by a long shot
The boy then ran to a neighbour's home across the street and asked her to call an ambulance.
"Hi, I've just shot mum can you ring an ambulance please?" and surely if they could afford guns for their children they could afford to have a phone line.
