I never understood why parents would do this sort of thing, it sounds unethical and barbaric. Inflicting pain on a child to make her look "pretty". How about let the child grow up and let them decide whether or not they want to have their ears pierced. I sometimes see children old enough to be in preschool with earrings. :X

The same argument has been made countless times with circumcision. (I imagine a similar conclusion will be made here.)
I believe it's okay for women to start piercing (ears (lobes)) when they reach their early teens. When they get older, they can do more 'advanced' piercings (I.E around the pinna ?). Any time before that I believe it's plain stupid. It's like giving a ten year old a cell phone.
I don't think men should get piercings at all, but that's just my opinion.
But ear peircings aren't as big of a deal. You don't wear it, and it seals. If you had it long enough it might not, but then it's just a tiny hole.

I walked into my living room once and saw my mom watching some horrible child pageant show, Toddlers & Tiaras, or something stupid along those lines.
There are moms who pierce their like 3-4 year old kids ears, make them do minor cosmetic surgery-like shit, pound on tons of makeup and make them walk around in terribly stupid outfits and high heels.
I watched for 5 minutes and walked away questioning how shit like this was legal, let alone on TV, nonetheless.
Shit parents like that almost make me want parenting licenses.

I waited until I was older to get my ears pierced. It's a moot point, really, since I'm allergic to normal earrings you can buy from the store.

Why do you even care? It's not like it's gonna haunt them in later life. Sure, if they're a pageant winner they'll probably end up with more than one cock in 'em before they turn 10, but y'know, take the earrings out and the holes close right back up. If I have a daughter she'll get her ears pierced when she decides she wants them. Not going to pierce them when she's a toddler, but I imagine by the time she hits second or third grade all her friends will have had them pierced and she'll want them too.
Then again I don't really see the problem with piercing a small child's ears either.

In Ireland, if a young kid (Like from 4 upwards) has an ear piercing (especially boys) you know they're either a traveller (Irish term, more or less like gypsy, except they're not gypsies in the traditional sense.
