International hacking group ‘Anonymous’ says it has obtained a list of the members of the North Korean propaganda website ‘Uriminzzokiri’. The South Korean police, as well as conservative netizens, have launched investigations into some of those registered at domestic e-mail addresses. An official with the police revealed on the 5th, “We have the list and are looking closely at it to see whether South Koreans really did subscribe to the website and what activities they were involved in.” He continued, “We will investigate whether they praised North Korea or sympathized with North Korean claims. It could also be a problem that they even subscribed to an enemy or anti-state organization, but we are now figuring out how deeply to investigate the case.” ‘Anonymous’, in an April 2nd post entitled “An anonymously written note”, stated that they had hacked not only the Uriminzzokiri site to obtain the data on its 15,000 members, but also the North Korean intranet. Releasing a modest amount of the data it claims to hold, the group claimed, “Enjoy these few records as a proof of our access to your systems (random innocent citizens, collateral damage, because they were stupid enough to choose idiot passwords), we got all over 15k membership records of www.uriminzokkiri.com and many more. First we gonna wipe your data, then we gonna wipe your badass dictatorship ‘government.’” The partial list that was subsequently released contained user IDs, passwords, names, email addresses and dates of birth. There were a number of e-mail addresses linked to domestic portal sites on the list.
http://www.dailynk.com/english/read.php?cataId=nk00100&num=10467
Holy shit Did anonymous just cause an international incident? The end is truly near
I doubt it's just the conservatives scouring the list
I find it a bit cringe worthy when anonymous tries to get involved. "We will wipe your geocities website and now we will wipe u"
I find it a bit cringe worthy when anonymous tries to get involved. "We will wipe your geocities website and now we will wipe u"
Geocities has been down for years, find a better example.
Except "anonymous" isn't a thing It was one guy or a group of people using the internet to hide who he is.
Except "anonymous" isn't a thing It was one guy or a group of people using the internet to hide who he is.
and is therefore by definition anonymous? :v:
and is therefore by definition anonymous? :v:
The problem is that people act like Anonymous is a select group of people, whereas it's just that any moron can throw on the hat and use the name for recognition and attention.
I'm worried this turns into a McCarthy era incident for the South when they blame everyone they don't like as being "friendly" to the North.
The problem is that people act like Anonymous is a select group of people, whereas it's just that any moron can throw on the hat and use the name for recognition and attention.
It is better than using a nickname consisting of a word most people don't know about like Chronitonity or some shit like that
Geocities has been down for years, find a better example.
That is the example.
Wait so it's just a list of emails subscribed to a newsletter? I don't see how that's such a big deal.
also the North Korean intranet
Holy shit, that is both good and bad, anonymous could leak so much shit onto the intranet to the people using it. Word of mouth is the most popular way of getting info from point A to B in NK, even though a civilian uproar is unlikely everyone could be infested with all the lies the NK government has told them over the years Also anonymous (in some cases) do amazing work, i believe there's two sides to it, the grubby teenage side that threatens/ddos's websites for no reason and the mature side which tries to serve justice as best as possible like in this case)
The problem is that people act like Anonymous is a select group of people, whereas it's just that any moron can throw on the hat and use the name for recognition and attention.
I said it yesterday, everytime I hear a newscaster say "Hacking syndicate 'Anyonymous'" I die a little inside
I said it yesterday, everytime I hear a newscaster say "Hacking syndicate 'Anyonymous'" I die a little inside
At first I thought it was just straight up stupidity, but almost every news outlet has been doing it for so long now that I'm starting to think that they do it just because it sounds scarier and thus brings more attention. Maybe I'm just giving them too much credit though.
It is better than using a nickname consisting of a word most people don't know about like Chronitonity or some shit like that
I'm not sure what I expected
Let's all start using "an anonymous group of internet activists" instead of anonymous whenever any group of people label themselves anonymous and hope it catches on.

Could we just put the debate on the proper usage of the term "Anonymous" on the side for now, and focus on the fact that somebody leaked potentially important information? I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but they could've possibly revealed a list of traitors in South Korea. That's a bit more important than "lolno anon is not a select group of people stop saying anonymous like it's an organization."
What do you want to bet the majority of them signed up to laugh at the propaganda?
I think this would have been much more praiseworthy had they done it in silence instead of waving their dicks in NK's face afterward. Why tell the enemy what info you've taken from them? And the "We're gonna wipe your government" was an unnecessary provocation. Edit: Not to say I'm not amazed by what they've accomplished.
"Hacking syndicate 'Anyonymous'" I die a little inside
I would too, especially because they apparantly can't spell Anonymous huh?
and is therefore by definition anonymous? :v:
They're anonymous, but they aren't 'Anonymous'.

Anonymous isn't an organized entity, it's just a face that hackers can hide behind when they want to pretend they're important.
It could also be a problem that they even subscribed to an enemy or anti-state organization
I find this a bit disturbing, how should that be a problem? What if they just did to laugh at NK propaganda? "Herp derp going on your record."
What do you want to bet the majority of them signed up to laugh at the propaganda?
I was thinking this as well. If you'd looked at my history, you'd think I was a racist ultranationalist and conspiracy theorist. In reality, I just get a kick out of reading the shit that flows from their heads.
Anonymous isn't an organized entity, it's just a face that hackers can hide behind when they want to pretend they're important.
thanks for shedding new light on the subject i never would have known without you reminding us
