The US Senate has voted overwhelmingly to confirm General David Petraeus to be the new director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
Mr Petraeus, commander of US forces in Afghanistan, was nominated by President Barack Obama to replace Leon Panetta, who is leaving the CIA to become Pentagon chief.
Mr Petraeus is expected to start his new job in September.
Yeah, yeah, short source. I will see if I can find a better one.
Second, better, source.

why, what'd he say?
isn't this guy like really hardcore left?
Oh hey, you're useless as a general - come lead the CIA.
He's the fall guy.
Why doesn't anyone like Patreaus. He doesn't seem that bad to me.
So they have a full General instead of a spook in charge of the CIA.
What.
The.
Hell.

Well this didn't make sense to me at first, but now at least the military will probably have better relations with the intelligence community.
Yeah I can see Petraeus becoming president in the future
i remember patraeus as being a pretty cool guy

Sluggo, your opinions don't exactly hold water when matched with reality

Hey man, I'm a Democrat and all, but I genuinely haven't heard bad things about this guy and my opinion of him was pretty acceptable. Could you explain to me and anyone else what we've missed?
Oh hey, you're useless as a general - come lead the CIA.
Useless my ass, under Petraeus' command, Iraq's GDP grew by seventeen percent, real estate and construction boomed, and consumer electronics purchasing has risen sharply. Yeah, in his later years, security has waned, but if it wasn't for his economy-boosting counter insurgency tactics, Iraq would just be another third world country in the sand, even if it is steroid induced.

I don't have a clue who this guy is, but I like his name.

He essentially apologized to the people rioting and killing people in Afghanistan in response to the Koran burning.
He went out of his way to condemn as a terrible insult anyone who burns the Koran.
I don't care what you think about the specific guy who burned the Koran in the U.S(some weird pastor) but Muslims do not have the right to riot in the streets and murder people just because someone burned a book they really like (or think is magic or whatever).
No matter how badly somebody is offended, if they start committing acts of violence because of their offence, they bear responsibility for their actions, not the person who offended them.

I'm sure there were a lot of nonviolent Muslims in the world who were offended. He was apologizing to Islam as a whole.
There was an extreme concern that the Taliban could use this to foster anti-US hatred.

Petraeus is a general, not a politician.

That's the problem, we need that stuff to stop booming then we can bring the troops home.
