Man attempts to kill Pauline Marois
Guy shows up wearing a bathrobe and a ski mask throws a smoke bomb starting a small fire and gets tackled dropping his Vz.58
Marois hustled off stage. Montreal police confirm two people shot outside Parti Quebecois rally; both in critical condition.
If any gun control comes from this I will be extremely butthurt.
Here's a source but not much there yet: http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/politics/archives/2012/09/20120905-002452.html

1 civilian confirmed dead, 1 injured
Guns r bad because
Did you see this or was it on the news
wow. such a shame people like these taint already volatile topics like guns and politics
Watch the RCMP ban the Vz.58, our only "assault rifle" legally available.
Quick! Nobody give a damn as to why he may have started firing which is probably the bigger issue, we have to sarcastically mock anti-gun nuts before they use this against pro-gun nuts!
Wow. That face.

:v:
I hate the Parti Québécois as much as the next English guy in Quebec, but this is extremely shameful.

We have other black rifles, but if they try to ban the Vz. I will be mad as hell
Any word on a motive?
wow. such a shame people like these taint already volatile topics like guns and politics
If only we didn't have both.
Any word on a motive?

I hate the Parti Québécois as much as the next English guy in Quebec, but this is extremely shameful.
I feel so sorry for you, listening to them bitch about how they need to be their own country, I'm already annoyed at it and I'm in Ontario.
Any word on a motive?
Guessing he's against the separatist movement is the first thing that comes to mind.
Why do English Canadians not like French Canadians being independent?
Why do English Canadians not like French Canadians being independent?
Because they lost a war a really long time ago and continue to bitch to this day. They have no reason to be their own country, all they do is speak a language that is different and even then most people there can and do speak English more often. They are apart of Canada, they have been given all the rights for French they need, ALL our labels are in French and English, there is French service everywhere in the country, there is absolutely no reason they need to separate other then the fact they are butthurt over a war way back when.
Why do English Canadians not like French Canadians being independent?
Because it's a terrible idea to begin with (assuming you are talking about the separatist movement)and they are stupid
[editline]5th September 2012[/editline]
yes I know that isn't very detailed
yea, who's him? Source doesn't mention who was shot...
The premier of Quebec, and he wasn't shot.. he was going to shoot at him.
They didn't win majority government at least
They didn't win majority government at least
Thank the fucking lord.
If there was ever a politician as racist and bigoted as Marois in English Canada, especially towards the French, people would be very openly offended, and the media would have a field day, but apparently in Quebec it's okay for a politician to be racist towards anyone who isn't a white, French-speaking Roman Catholic because it's one "minority" against another, and they're just trying to "preserve their culture."
There are going to be SO MANY court battles over the constitution with this lady in power, unless she jams a notwithstanding clause into EVERYTHING, and that clause is the biggest load of crap in the constitution, it's the only reason Bill 101 was able to be upheld.
Don't people deserve a right to self governance and independence if they really want it?

I don't know anything about Marois other than the party she's in. You seem knowledgeable. Please do tell

She wants to ban civil servants from wearing any religious thing except a crucifix, she wants to ban businesses from using a language other than French IN THE OFFICE, she wants to ban anyone who doesn't speak fluent French from running for public office, or lobbying the government even if they speak English, she wants to ban people who haven't taken school in English their whole lives from going to an English CEGEP, and ban anyone whose parents didn't learn English in Quebec from learning English in Quebec, restrict or prohibit public displays of religion, she supported the student protests, and she's a separatist. She has actively attacked anyone who is a Quebecois that speaks English at all as a threat to their culture, and her policy of banning people from lobbying or speaking in front of the government if they don't speak French discriminates against the Natives in Northern Quebec moreso than "les anglais."
I encourage an actual Quebecois to add on to/fact check/correct this, but basically from what I've seen she's pretty racist for a politician and wants to treat everyone who isn't French and Christian as a second-class citizen.
I can understand saying "boo, she won", but thinking "I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL HER AND EVERY SINGLE UNRELATED PERSON THAT HAPPENS TO BE THERE AT THE TIME" is just extremism.

So she's a complete nutjob?
Got it boss.

He was wearing a bathrobe, he probably wanted to do a bloodbath.

No, she's French.
Don't people deserve a right to self governance and independence if they really want it?
In the framework of the provincial and federal governments that exist in Canada, the people of Quebec already have a measure self governance and significant "independence" from English Canada as it is with the special rights and laws and culture they're accorded themselves and maintained for hundreds of years. Fracturing the community and society of a developed nation like Canada would set a bad precedent for whiny assholes to try declare they deserve more rights and special attention than everyone else and then in a worse case scenario you'd have all parts of Canada (or even other "stable" first-world nations) break apart for all kinds of straw-grasping reasons.
For all intents and purposes its just not a good idea for Canada and generally everyone else.
