When you thought that new Ghostbusters was enough to prove Hollywood that films based only on diversity does not work... There is a new contender...
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has firmed an October start date in New York for Ocean’s Eight, the female-driven caper spinoff directed by Gary Ross, and the studio is closing with its principal cast. Aside from the previously identified Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, deals are close with Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina. The latter is the hip-hop moniker of Asian-American rapper and actress Nora Lum, who most recently had a role in Neighbors 2. The film will be produced by Ocean’s Eleven director Steven Soderbergh, and Ross wrote the script with Olivia Milch. Ross and Soderbergh are longtime informal collaborators, serving as second unit director on each other’s films and as sounding board on scripts and projects. They have been planning this film with Warner Bros President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman long enough that the initial conversations included Jerry Weintraub, the venerable producer of the original Ocean’s Eleven trilogy whose star-studded cast included George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. Weintraub died last summer. Susan Ekins is executive producer and production senior veep Jesse Ehrman is overseeing the film with Silverman for Warner Bros.
Don't you find it funny that this remake is handicapped from "Eleven" to "Eight" because [sp]you're unable to find 8 female celebrities willing to do this trainwreck?[/sp] http://deadline.com/2016/08/oceans-eight-rihanna-anne-hathaway-sandra-bullock-cate-blanchett-awkwafina-helena-bonham-carter-mindy-kaling-1201801342/
I personally think we shouldn't dismiss this movie until we see actual footage. It could be good.
I personally think we shouldn't dismiss this movie until we see actual footage. It could be good.
Good idea, mate. Just like we weren't supposed to dismiss Ghostbusters.
maybe it could work.
Good idea, mate. Just like we weren't supposed to dismiss Ghostbusters.
Well Ghostbusters was produced by Amy "literally fucking insane and also illiterate" Pascal and Paul "I had a breakdown on set because i realized my city-sized disco dance number was a bad idea" Feig directing it. And also the actors were awful fits and the movie looked like shit.
Good idea, mate. Just like we weren't supposed to dismiss Ghostbusters.
I dismissed it after the trailer came out and it was revealed not to be a good movie. Plus all the drama behind the scenes did taint my views of the movie.
Good idea, mate. Just like we weren't supposed to dismiss Ghostbusters.
Yeah and then we saw footage of it and it looked like shit, just wait for the trailer.
Just ignore these films and they will go away
I got used to Bonham Carter being only in things with Johnny Depp so this is weird.
Can they seriously not create a new franchise to do this in? Do they really need to ride coattails off a franchise that's been dead for 10 years? Making a movie with an all-female ensemble is fine and all, but this "genderswap" shit is so fucking uninspired.
I mean this has much better actors and is directed by a competent director. I'm not going to blow it off until I see a trailer. But the real question of course is did we really need this>?
I got used to Bonham Carter being only in things with Johnny Depp so this is weird.
Watch Fight Club. She's immense.
Watch Fight Club. She's immense.
Saw that movie once and I was not really into it I forgot she was in it.
Weren't the most recent ones with Clooney and such reboots too?
soderbergh is still involved so it might be cool
Good idea, mate. Just like we weren't supposed to dismiss Ghostbusters.
But this has rihanna in it Itll be worth it just for that
Weren't the most recent ones with Clooney and such reboots too?
Ocean's 11 is a reboot in name only, if that makes sense. There was a 60's movie with the Rat Pack and the only connection they share is that they're heist movies and have a "Danny Ocean" in them.
But this has rihanna in it Itll be worth it just for that
Oh you mean, that one girl who has never played a big role in a good movie? Or any movie for that matter? Holy shit, I can't WAIT for this movie.
im not sure they can pull off the suave that works with oceans 11,13 and somewhat 12 but who knows i think its kind of weird they have such a star heavy cast without many up and commers like the clooney oceans had
To be fair, this has been in development since october last year. And hey, look on the bright side, you won't have manchildren crying about ruined childhoods over this one.
One idea: No Rihanna
Oh you mean, that one girl who has never played a big role in a good movie? Or any movie for that matter? Holy shit, I can't WAIT for this movie.
She had a pretty big role in Battleship.
Honestly, this is a great cast (maybe except Rihanna, can she act???) and it has potential. It could also be awful, but it'll probably become the hip new film for people to shit on either way.
She had a pretty big role in Battleship.
Oh man, Battleship was the pinnacle of movie making.
lol you are actually proving the ghostbusters defenders right if you dismiss the movie this early.
Alright, how?
She had a pretty big role in Battleship.
He said good movies
lol you are actually proving the ghostbusters defenders right if you dismiss the movie this early.
im allowed to make a prediction on the quality of the film based on the central premise
She had a pretty big role in Battleship.
http://www.businessinsider.com/here-is-every-single-line-rihanna-utters-in-battleship-2012-5
lol you are actually proving the ghostbusters defenders right if you dismiss the movie this early.
Yeah dude being sick of reboots and remakes sure proves them right
im allowed to make a prediction on the quality of the film based on the central premise
You are, but calling it medioce 'because genderswap' is fucking dumb. All we know for now is that it's a remake with an all-women cast. That's it. Literally impossible to make any comment regarding the quality of the movie so far.
