Seriously, i've spent countless hours trying to find tabs. Dethklok, Burning the Masses, pretty much anything and there's few if any bass tabs. I see this as a problem, as many would. Fucking plenty of guitar tabs though, yay for me, with my lack of guitar.
that's because bass is very overlooked within music by majority of listeners now. I can relate to the problem, as I am also a bassist
I think drum tabs are harder to find.
Drum tabs are incoherent and it's way easier to learn how to read music then x's. Might as well learn by ear too.
Generally it's because Bass tabs are much simpler than guitar ones. Just figure it out by ear, Jesus...
The bass in most songs are usually just playing the guitar riff or hammering out a stream of notes, throw in a passing tone, and then they are on to the next note. Most stuff other than that you can figure out by ear unless it is a bassist who is known for making his stuff complex. Point is that the bass in most songs is easy to figure out and with riff based songs you can likely just look at the guitar tab.
First, look up a guitar tab.
Then, play that on bass, changing chords to the root note only.
Done.

:frog:
Listen to this, the bassline is obviously very complex and not just root note bullshit.

With a song like that you'd be lucky to find any tab.
Try to find Guitar Pro tabs, if they are good they have the bass.
go for guitar pro yeah, but really you should learn some scales and just get used to picking up stuff by ear unless it's realy difficult. With alot of metal bands you can pretty much figure out the bassline by just looking at the rhythm guitar part and listening a bit anyway
I usually do pick out stuff by ear, but it's hard for some songs.
I like being a guitarist so I can be lazy, and there will always be tabs out there
but usually I cbf learning songs, I just focus on theory and improv

The ones generally regarded as essential are:
Brain Salad Surgery.
Tarkus.
Trilogy.
Self-titled album.
Ultimate Guitar have some bass tabs and increasingly getting more, you should check the site.

sorry dude didn't mean to patronise you or anything, use 911tabs.com
It's pretty much a search engine for tab sites
This site has a fuckton of bass tabs.

What about Dream Theater songs
I don't know shit about metal or whatever OP is talking about but whenever I want a tab I can't find easily I look for a midi file of the song and throw it into my DAW or this program named Noteworthy composer and it'll show me the notes.
If you can't find the bass tabs for a song, what you could do is look up the guitar tabs. This is because in some cases, the bass plays somewhat the same as the guitar. Then listen to the song and see if you can figure out what's different from the guitar by ear. That way you'll also get some training in figuring out shit by ear which is a cool thing do be able to do really.

What about any song that isn´t four-chord-bullshit?
Oh wait, you´re the guy who said bass guitar takes 5 seconds to learn and 5 seconds to stop giving a fuck. Never mind.
Try finding banjo tabs.
That's fucking hard.
I want more banjo tabs :colbert: Fuck you guys and your easy bass/guitar/drum tabs! Think of the banjo players.
Learn songs by ear you lazy git.

Honestly most in most rock, metal, and pop songs the bass is really simple. Yes there are a lot of songs have a more complex bass part, but that' the minority.

And that´s one reason I personally listen to the minority. Most rock, metal and pop songs are mixed just god damn horribly, you could take the bass line out and no one would even notice. Bass done right can really almost single handedly create the whole atmosphere of the song, or change it drastically.

Just listen to ~1:40 when the bass comes in. While the bass line might not be that complicated, it certainly is a key factor.
It´s just sad how most rock, metal and pop just dismiss something as (potentialy) important and beautifull as the bass guitar as something that doesn´t really matter because you can´t even hear it. Well damn, then make it audiable and make it matter. Most people even play bass just because no one else in their band wants to play it. Sigh...
And I´m not saying you think bass doesn´t matter. I just really like bass guitar in songs and I felt like complaining about the lack of proper bass in most songs...

What the hell do you listen to, seriously?
Even bassist Mike "Dirnt" of Greenday fame does more than this.
Saying stuff like that just shows your lack knowledge of how instruments are applied in varying styles.
I can play bass as a solo instrument that sounds good, it's not limited by what you can do with your left hand but your right hand.

For example in a lot of jazz and blues there is often use of the 3rd note of the root in bass. Just putting that out there.
