This is a bit of a weird news thread http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15937664 This is Paul McMullan; News International's walking PR nightmare. Previously, he has not only openly admitted that he and his colleagues hacked the phones of murder victims' families, but has attempted (and utterly failed) to defend the practice in multiple TV interviews. He has even called News International executives "the scum of journalism" for not admitting and defending their practices - claiming they would have been "heroes" if they had. Here he's testifying to the Leveson Inquiry into press ethics (set up to investigate this phone hacking business). He's talking about News of the World's 'name and shame' anti-pedophile campaign (the one Brass Eye took the piss out of) which resulted in vigilante attacks and multiple cases of mistaken identity, wherein several innocent and unrelated people were beaten up and harassed.
What a winner.
someone remind me why we keep that kind of scum around?
Even being slightly proud about that is a bad thing to feel, especially if you're a corporate shitbag like that dude.
Oh boo boo. Everyone feels somewhat proud if something they did had a great effect on people, positive or negative. It may not always be a desirable feeling, but there's no need to hypocritically bash a guy for coming into the open with it. I'd rather this than lies.

Tabloid journalist.

He just said not proud that he actually got someone beaten up, but proud that he wrote a story so powerful that it caused riots.
Did you watch the video? Point taken, though. [editline]why are you even looking here[/editline] At the end, he does say it was 'a bit of a joke', in which case he doesn't seem to have a good taste in humour.
It was definitely a joke, and I thought it was pretty funny.
Red-top journalist. Disregard.
For anyone wanting to see him ripped apart by Steve Coogan then check this out, 7 minute video of pure gold;

UHM, INVESTIGATE, Conduct INTERVIEWS? collect evidence? Like REAL journalists?
I like how that clip ends, it sums up the sort of journalist he is.
"Sometimes the NoTW gets a great scoop." "Very occasional. Hitler was nice to dogs." oh fucking hell amazing sly joke there, Steve.
"Sometimes the NoTW gets a great scoop." "Very occasional. Hitler was nice to dogs." oh fucking hell amazing sly joke there, Steve.
That was my favorite part too. When I first saw that video I had to show everyone within a 1 mile radius I was laughing that much.
he has not only openly admitted that he and his colleagues hacked the phones of murder victims' families
How the fuck do you "hack" a phone? Like...with an axe? That's pretty rude.
He got an innocent pediatrician beaten up by connoting that "pediatrician" meant "pedophile"
how does anyone even get that wrong
I understand what he means, he just wants to have an impact. Sad that society makes people feel so desperate for being important that they resort to terrible things
I understand what he means, he just wants to have an impact. Sad that society makes people feel so desperate for being important that they resort to terrible things
No he's just a twat trying desperately to justify his shitty actions now that he's in hot water. Like his whole spiel about how hacking celebrity's phones is somehow justified because they are "celebrities". He's trying to make it seem like he's bringing them down the the "average people" level, but infact he's just perpetuating the notion that celebrities should be treated differently by treating them as a separate class of people and ignoring their right to privacy. Even worse that he does it to the family members of murder victims, I mean jesus christ, how fucking low can you get? Like Steve Coogan says in that video, he's not bending laws to expose to massive corruption, i.e breaking laws for the greater good, he's just breaking laws to make personal gain, and it's pathetic. This guy is a shit stain and I have zero sympathy for him. Want to have an impact? Be a real journalist.
the people in the BBC who risk their lives by going into the most insane deadly situations to report that the fighting has indeed started to stopped are real journalists. this whole thing has just made me appreciate the fact that the UK has such an excellent news department.
If you want bad-ass, thisispain, try and find the clip of the british reporter who takes a bullet to her helmet, shrugs it off and essentially says "we have to get this clip". It will be on something like Liveleak surely (although don't go to Liveleak if you're young/squeemish/likely to click videos containing death but don't really want to!)
