My spider senses are tingling. Bias?
My spider senses are tingling. Bias?
still fun to watch tho
My spider senses are tingling. Bias?
hey aren't you the guy who was posting conspiracy shit about this exact subject in SH? i mean don't get me wrong sure it can be legitimately biased but coming from you that sounds a bit weird

No but seriously. When they walk up to that sandbag prison somebody starts screaming in the backround, there is dramatic music and there is a heartbeat. With that I'm just wondering what emotions they are trying to wake in me. There is some level of bias.
No but seriously. When they walk up to that sandbag prison somebody starts screaming in the backround, there is dramatic music and there is a heartbeat. I'm just wondering what emotions they are trying to wake in me with such stuff.
well it's a trailer, it's supposed to be attention-catching. not sure if that stuff's in the full documentary; if it is then yeah there's some bias up in this thing
Christ, those afghans in the blue clothes are a bunch of goofballs
well it's a trailer, it's supposed to be attention-catching. not sure if that stuff's in the full documentary; if it is then yeah there's some bias up in this thing
Vice is pretty much like many journalism outlets today by having some sort of agenda. What makes Vice different is that their agenda is pretty weird sometimes and other times their agenda can be just downright silly on top of feeling very forced. They can be pretty biased at times on some subjects.

It's important you get as many sources as possible and understand their motivations. :v:
Major Steuber seems like a real good person
Holy shit I feel bad for Steuber You can just see in his face that he's a broken man

My dad is special forces and he literally just deployed again yesterday for like, the 3rd time this year. I don't even know what they're trying to accomplish over there anymore.

'Hearts and Minds' really reminds me of Nixon's 'Peace with honour', a political doublespeak to wring out a few more years of deployment and a woeful attempt to save face (or in the case of Afghanistan, quickly assemble some notion that we succeeded in doing something for the Afghan people). The only hearts and minds we've won are the warlords and profiteers.
like their north korea doc is really bad
their chernobyl 'documentary' is the worst thing in journalism since the daily mail
Uughh what about that kid that talks like he's been fucked in the mouth for a month straight? Vice is just trying to be interresting these days..
Why would they have to put up with that child molester? Report him to his superiors or just put a knife in him.
Why would they have to put up with that child molester? Report him to his superiors or just put a knife in him.
i don't think you understand the role of the us forces in afghanistan very well
Everything is biased deal with it.
Except people like Joe Sacco who don't need to respond to anyone, whose work aren't cut and organized into more "interesting" article. The guys who go in solo and write about things as they really are. You know, the actual journalists.

Complaining that something that is biased is void of any reason for me to pay attention what your opinion is. Instead, point out what the bias is, and how it may be flawed. Of course if you say that, you also have a bias towards why it may be flawed.
Afghanistan is such a shithole. Sad to see that the country seems too far gone to help out.
Steuber is a fucking CHAMP. Mad respects for him. This whole thing was really depressing, I feel bad for so many people. :(
My spider senses are tingling. Bias?
bias towards reality
Seems i'm getting famous hehe. No but seriously. With that I'm just wondering what emotions they are trying to wake in me. There is some level of bias.
All documentaries, all textbooks, all instances of recorded history have a bias toward one side to favor one ideological view of the world. There are so many words that have synonyms with separate connotations: freedom fighter/terrorist, revolutionary/reactionary, violence/brutality. Ya, the author of the documentary is playing some music to make you feel a certain way, because he/she is arguing that you SHOULD feel that way about the whole ordeal. They are presenting you footage of Afghanistan and arguing from a specific position about what your interpretation about it should be - its up to you if you decide to agree with her or not.
Afghanistan is such a shithole. Sad to see that the country seems too far gone to help out.
Let me repost what I said in another thread:
I don't support the war in Afghanistan, but to say that it was a 100% complete waste of time is a bit overkill, no? -Education has gone up since 2001 dramatically, far better than it did under the Taliban. -They actually have a legal system, whereas under the Taliban a lot of "justice" was merely vendetta killings. Now Afghanistan has a more impartial police and judiciary service -The Taliban were dead set on eradicating tribal culture and replacing it with the culture of leaders outside the country (ie Osama bin Laden). Anything that didn't match their cultural ideal was destroyed or defiled, which is heartwrenching in such an ancient and culturally diverse country, and other Islamic leaders were appalled at what they were doing. Since 2001 tribes and citizens in Afghanistan have been free to not only retain their individuality, but also to express it. lookie here From a BBC News article: "•54% of Afghans say they are more prosperous now than in 2001. •Those without access to electricity form only 33% of the population, which is an improvement on the previous 42%. •In 2000 only 35% of the population was immunised against Measles. Now it stands at 70%. •Literacy rates have improved to 52%, up from a previous 37% •In Helmand there are now 93 schools, an improvement from a previous 34. •52% of children are enrolled in schools, up from 37%. Around one million in 2001 (none of whom were girls) to over six million today, one third (or over two million) of whom are girls. •A significant increase in the availability of basic health services, which were available to less than 10 per cent of the population under the former Taliban regime, but are now extended to around 85 per cent of people. •The identification and management of over 39,000 community-based infrastructure projects - such as wells, clinics and roads – in over 22,000 communities throughout Afghanistan, through the Afghan-led National Solidarity Program. •The rehabilitation of almost 10,000 km of rural roads, supporting the employment of hundreds of thousands of local workers, through the National Rural Access Program. •The telecommunications industry has created about 100,000 jobs since 2001 •10 million Afghans today have access to telecommunications, compared to only 20,000 in 2001. •The Taliban suppressed free speech. Afghan people now have access to over 400 print media publications, 150 FM radio stations and 26 television channels. These give Afghans an outlet to discuss publicly issues that were previously off-limits, such as human rights abuses and women's rights." source another article on cultural heritage and how the Taliban nearly fucked it all over And this is a pdf from the Australian government on progress in Afghanistan since 2001 No, I am not saying that we've completely and utterly won and everything's fine and dandy over there. I'm just trying to point out that there were good things to come of this, so it wasn't completely and utterly pointless. The current Afghan Government is rife with corruption, and much of the police force is inept, but it's much, much better than the Taliban regime ever was.
