An immigration and asylum tribunal judge is being investigated over a remark he is alleged to have made about an Asian witness in a harassment case.
During a hearing in Preston, Peter Hollingworth was reported to have said to a prosecutor: "With a name like Patel she can only be working in a corner shop or off-licence."
Mr Hollingworth has resigned his post as a deputy district judge.
He is also currently "refraining" from tribunal duties, the judiciary said.
The comment is alleged to have been made at a procedural hearing on 30 October at Preston Magistrates' Court.
Yup, exactly this kind of people should be kept away from exactly that kind of a job.
'' asian ''
It's weird because here in India it's a common joke for us to make about Gujuratis that settle in the UK. Well, that and the jokes bout Southall and Houndslow. :v:
Guess only we can crack those jokes.

In Britain, 'Asian' can be used to refer to pretty much anybody from the continent of Asia. It's only in America where it's taken on the exclusive definition of East Asians.

The joke is one thing. The fact that somebody who's meant to judge whether or not somebody is allowed to enter the country made that joke is another.
