back in like middle school people used to give me shit for my long hair saying it was girly and whatnot until I told them that every year I donate about 18 inches of hair to a charity that makes wigs for people with cancer. at the time it was locks of love but they throw away so much hair I switched to pink hearts fund when they started up in 2005. I've been doing that for probably 15 years now getting shit on like this for being a good person sucks

Laws like these that punish transgender people that want to use the bathroom they feel comfortable with are terrible for doing what they're meant to do in the first place, but they may also have the added effect of occasionally punishing cisgender people who don't look cis to whoever's enforcing the law. This may also additionally punish forms of expression that lie outside of what's considered "normal" for a certain gender, like the woman in the story here, who was probably only under suspicion because she wore her hair short. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens many times from here on out if the law isn't repealed. I could've sworn I've heard of other instances of this happening already, but I don't remember where to find them. Terrible, terrible law. It reminds me a little of Sikhs being mistaken for Muslims and being subject to Islamophobic discrimination as a result.
