A while back in May I entrusted my friends to look after my camera while I went off to do something, which promptly resulted in lemonade being spilt on it. Luckily there didn't seem to be any serious damage and it worked fine from that point onward. It hadn't leaked into anything vital and by now it's probably all dried up, although it left a sticky residue on the lens grip...but that's fine. However, I've noticed there's still some lodged in the AF/MF and IS switches, as well as some part of the inbuilt flash mechanism (which means it won't pop up when the button releases it, I have to manually pull it up. Again, not much of an issue since I have a flashgun anyway. And with some coercion it seems to be fixing itself. But still.)
So, is it possible to remove this residue from the switches? I'm not trying anything like opening up the lens itself just yet, given that this is my only one for now. I've got my eye on the 18-135 to replace it - it's sustained a blow to the front, thankfully not destroying the glass but the filter thread is a little wonky. But anyway, if I can just lift off the switch covers, that would be great news. If not, I guess I'll see if a small paintbrush or something can get rid of it.
EDIT: Here's a quick picture, apologies for shitty phone camera:

It's the darker, shiny strip on the left of the switch housing...thing.
Small amount of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip perhaps? Try a small test spot somewhere you won't notice, just to see that it won't lift the paint.
Lucky it's only the kit lens, but it'd still be pretty damn annoying.
Yeah, that's a good idea, but I have a feeling there's more stuck under the actual switch. I'll try it though. Maybe I could get it out by jiggling the switch around for a bit.
I've managed to get rid of the visible residue around the switches. Unfortunately they're still quite difficult to toggle until I've switched them on and off for a few seconds. Here's hoping they just pop right off, but I'm not about to try that until I can guarantee I won't snap it or something.
EDIT: I don't get how automerge works. Someone please fill me in? :)
"lemonade", of course.
It'll just merge itself, don't worry about it.

I don't know what you're insinuating here but it legit was lemonade :P We were at a school social event, which of course meant tons of soft drink. And my posts don't seem to have merged yet, which is why I asked.
But yeah, excuse the quotation marks...

I'd rather just do it myself, it doesn't really warrant paying someone to clean it. It's just that the switches are difficult to flick when the lens is mounted.
