Ubisoft Cancels Assassin's Creed: Unity Season Pass
The launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity was a highly-anticipated moment for me and for our development teams around the world who dedicated a tremendous amount of energy, passion and skill to the game’s creation. For us, it was the culmination of years of work on new technologies, the development of multiple innovations -- including an all-new game engine -- and an evolution of the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s core pillars. More importantly, we know that it was a highly-anticipated moment for many of you as well, as you looked forward to taking part in the first truly next generation Assassin’s Creed game.
Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin's Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.
We’ve been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Today, we’re releasing our third patch, which fixes a variety of specific issues related to the game’s stability and performance, matchmaking and connectivity, gameplay and menus. You can find the release notes on that patch here: Patch 3 Notes
To show our appreciation for your continued support, we’re making the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC free for everyone. For Season Pass holders, we will also offer the choice of one additional game from a selection of Ubisoft titles for free. More details on the offer for Season Pass holders can be found here: AC Unity FAQ
In addition to the latest patch and this offer, we are committed to delivering further fixes for other issues you’ve raised. In the meantime, please keep your feedback coming – it has been both humbling and incredibly helpful as we continue working hard to improve the overall quality of the game. We are hopeful that with these forthcoming updates, everyone will be able to truly enjoy their Assassin’s Creed Unity experience.
We will continue striving to make Assassin’s Creed one of the most ambitious and innovative franchises on the market, and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support.
Sincerely,
Yannis Mallat
CEO, Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto

Finally making a Season Pass worth it. Shit, I'd buy a Season Pass if I got a game out of it.
Well at least they are taking responsibility. Again it baffles me why you wouldnt adress whatever issue theyre having with their development model, instead of excusing everything you do.

The same reason the challenger blew up, a manager completely ignored their development team's concerns and said "we'll do it on schedule".
The title of this thread should be changed. It makes this sound like a bad thing when it's in fact one of the few good things Ubisoft has done in a while.
wow ubisoft is the devil, canceling content for games
i wish they would all burn, 3 fuckups this year makes them worse than satan. Forget games like Child of light, Rayman, Valiant Hearts, Or a bunch of other great games ubisoft made recently and released.

Yeah they're the devil. Fixing bugs, apologizing and giving people free DLC and free games is truly the most evil thing I've ever seen a company do.

I'm pretty sure he is being satirical, but at the same time so straw-man that it is silly and nonsensical.
This is the kind of thing that needs to happen. Realizing that their development/release schedule sucks balls and concentrating on actually fixing their mistakes.

I don't think they truly realize anything, on a meaningful level of burning developers, consumers, and the games themselves, but rather that this game was too rushed and thus made them lose money.
Companies are a mix of stupidity, smarts, and greed. If they're more smart than stupid they'll make a few great games for a few years and pull this again, because they know how much they can pull.

You are clearly leaving out the reason why they are making the DLC free. If a game is so much of a PR disaster that it leaves an impression so bad that a season pass has to be recalled in entirety, as nobody in their right mind would buy dlc for a game that had this rough of an initial release, unless there is some serious change in management and or business practices, no amount of free games is going to redeem that.

Yeah I didn't miss the sarcasm, I was just adding on to it. Then again, it's pretty easy to miss written sarcasm.
If you purchased the Season Pass or Assassin’s Creed Unity Gold Edition (which includes the Season Pass), you are eligible to choose one free game from among a select list of Ubisoft titles.* These are:
The Crew
Far Cry 4
Watch Dogs
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
Rayman Legends
Just Dance 2015
So if you bought the season pass, you still get the content you paid for (it's not canceled) and you can also get far cry 4 for free.
Where does it even say the Season Pass was cancelled?
From what I can read the FIRST DLC will be free for everyone who bought AC: Unity and to compensate people who bought a Season Pass, they get offered a game free of charge.
Fuck I was ninja'd

It wasn't "cancelled" per se, it's no longer for sale.

yeah it seems the DLC is getting cancelled to be paid for and they aren't going to be selling the season pass anymore, but if you already bought the season pass you get a free game, PLUS the other stuff that was promised (Chronicles).

why the fuck would you get a critically acclaimed game like far cry 4 when you could and should get just dance 2015?

yea i was
i seriously don't understand the hatred ubisoft has gathered in 3 months though
they fucked up with review embargoes i understand that, but it's nothing to be "Worse than EA" about. Especially since Ubi puts out great small games and big games.
Bugs and glitches i understand, but thats what patches are for and they put out a patch today in ACU that fixed all that. There was a earlier patch that fixed most of the PC Framerate issues too.
Once ubi learns to not force out a big game at the end of the year all the problems are fixed.
A step in the right direction.
Shame Ubisoft has taken mile-long leaps in the wrong direction for several years.
I'm ready to change my mind about Ubisoft, if they choose to actually change their ways and stop lying to their customers, and stop releasing unfinished, broken games.
I really want to like your games Ubisoft. You have some of the coolest franchises in the industry, but you just seem to be running every single one of them into the ground, one by one.
I hope they actually turn things around, but like a lot of other people, I have very serious doubts it will happen.

Woah shit, FC4?
Step in the right direction.

What about their obvious bullshit-spewing they've been doing for ages about 30 FPS "cinematic feel" and resolution BS?
What about their blatant lies about the graphics of Watch Dogs? (Let's see what happens with R6 and The Division)
They're persistently releasing extremely buggy games - sure patches fix most issues, but it's not an excuse for selling an unplayable game at launch.
Ubisoft are still selling overpriced day-1 DLC.
Besides that there's the strange review embargoes that have been going on.
Ubisoft has for a couple of years been a very dishonest games publisher, that I sadly have very little faith in at this point.
"unexpected technical issues"
B-B-BULLSHIT!
Well, at least the guys who brought the seasons pass gets a free game. Still does not make up for those who brought a unfinished game.
I am not sure if I am actually surprised or not over these events. I mean, given how much of a wreck AC:U is I did expect them to make up for it in some way. But not in the free DLC and free game for season pass owners kind of way.
I just hope that this means Rainbow Six: Siege won't be a rushed release, what with the team behind it actually having some communication with the community and it looking rather promising as a game.

EA has been doing better and better this year, while Ubisoft has had a lot of blunders. In what way is EA worse than Ubisoft right now?
Wow, they actually didn't fuck up for once.
I'm genuinely surprised.
And today, well, people say Ubisoft's heart grew
Seriously though I'm stoked. I'm going to get a copy of FC4. I got FC3 free with my old graphics card, so this is pretty cool.
Imagine the creator of a major blockbuster film refunding ticket sales.
On one hand Ubisoft is a company that felt it's products were so impressive they warranted a season pass in the first place.
Now that they've cancelled it after the fact it makes them look particularly bad.
