A Texan internet troll who posted voyeuristic photos of underage girls without their permission on the popular social news site Reddit has had his true identity exposed.
Michael Brutsch, 49, a married computer programmer for a financial services company, primarily managed two 'subreddits', a type of user-managed forum, titled 'Jailbait' and 'Creepshots'.
Under the pseudonym of Violentacrez, Brutsch presided over an "unending fountain" of images of scantily-clad underage girls taken from their Facebook profiles without their permission, as well as posting images and comments under the subreddits 'Misogyny' and 'Incest'.
He contends that he "never published anything illegal", and deleted any images of child pornography uploaded by other users.
On Friday, journalist Adrian Chen, who writes for the New-York based Gawker website, exposed Brutsch's name, marital status and place of work in a post entitled "Unmasking Reddit’s Violentacrez, The Biggest Troll on the Web".
He argued in the post: "If Brutsch did not want his employers to know that he had become a minor internet celebrity through spending hours every day posting photos of 14-year-olds in bikinis to thousands of people on the internet, he should have stuck to posting cat videos."
Brutsch also operated the 'Creepshots' subreddit, dedicated to photos of women taken without their permission in public places, including so-called 'upskirt' shots.
Anyone can anonymously submit and vote on content on Reddit, and anyone can start a forum dedicated to their interests, known as a subreddit.
In February of this year, Reddit was forced to ban the 'Jailbait' subreddit following a public outcry, but this has not stopped the site from achieveing cult status on the internet, with 3.4 billion page views this August.
Even President Obama has hosted one of Reddit's popular Ask me Anything, or 'AMA', web chats, where users ask interesting or famous figures questions about their views and lives.
The exposé raises questions about the future of online anonymity among those who use it to invade the privacy of others, including children.
Mr Chen claims that under the "logic" of the site's users, "outing Violentacrez is worse than anonymously posting creepshots of innocent women, because doing so would undermine Reddit's role as a safe place for people to anonymously post creepshots of innocent women."
The journalist added he is "OK with that."
Not sure if late, anyway
married computer programmer
The wife needs to beat the ever loving shit out of him
Oh I heard about somebody awhile ago threatening to release his identity. Good.
I don't see what releasing the guys personal info has achieved. I doubt it will make reddit close the subforum.
I don't see what releasing the guys personal info has achieved. I doubt it will make reddit close the subforum.
It scares people
I don't see what releasing the guys personal info has achieved. I doubt it will make reddit close the subforum.
creepshots and jailbait have been closed for a while iirc
Oh I heard about somebody awhile ago threatening to release his identity. Good.
yes a reporter for Gawker adrian chen, who hates reddit.
who techically did blackmail.
yes a reporter for Gawker adrian chen, who hates reddit.
which is blackmail technically.
Technically? It's a federal felony.
Title is very misleading. The true "trolls" are the reddit admins who defend child porn in the name of "free speech."
call me crazy but i really don't see how anything has been achieved here.
I mean okay, he's a creepy fuck, but outing him achieves what exactly? Someone explain this shit to me.
And yet again, the media has not the slightest clue what the phrase "internet troll" actually means.

lol, what an honorable role :suicide:
read somewhere that he lost his job too.
creepshots and jailbait have been closed for a while iirc
So then what was the point of this? The guy is a creep and probably deserves this, but it achieves nothing. You can piss in the cherios of Adolf Hitler, but it doesn't actually achieve anything. It's pointless

The guy got fired from his job in real life. That, and his friends and family now all know about his racist, misogynistic, pedophilic, voyeuristic communities. That all being said, he's a douche that deserves everything he got.
creepshots and jailbait have been closed for a while iirc
not really
http://jezebel.com/5952293/creepshots-is-back-and-impersonating-lesbians
It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.
Ah, what the heck I'll laugh anyway.

Not defending Brutsch's actions but I fucking despise the Gawker network. I used to be a daily reader of Gizmodo and I simply stopped reading when I realised most of the editor's are biased pricks who want nothing but to shout out their opinions instead of writing news. I really don't get what gave this guy the motive to go and meddle in this affair...
Not only are Gawker and all their other web properties incredibly biased and childish, their 'journalists' aren't actually 'journalists'
who want nothing but to shout out their opinions instead of writing news
But it's a blog, not a news site
It's SUPPOSED to have opinions
Hows he a "troll"?
Someone needs to make a "Journalists Guide to People On The Internet".
The true "trolls" are the reddit admins who defend child porn in the name of "free speech."
They do that? I thought they only defended legal content. I don't remember child porn being on reddit.
Michael Brutsch.
You are the asshole of the internet.
You should be butt-buddies with the Gawker network.

Downright borderlining, and pushing the boundaries just for the hell of it.

So? It wasn't child porn, SPESSMEHREN was lying.
I hold nothing but contempt for this man, but I feel a pretty strong level of hypocrisy in this situation.

IIRC there was no illegal content, and that's why it wasn't taken down.
They took down content that broke the law.
Personally I find it stupid that this is such a big deal. You should be allowed to be an anonymous jackass on the Internet without being beat up.
Poor Violentacrez, who's gonna protect our free speech by posting pictures of dead teenagers now?
Poor poor Violentacrez.
Personally I find it stupid that this is such a big deal. You should be allowed to be an anonymous jackass on the Internet without being beat up.
Problem is, being a anonymous jackass just for the sake of it is what's the cause and reason for old geezers and conservatives trying to restrict the hell out of it.
It's basically like giving your enemy ammunition, only retards do that.
Not to mention most of those sub's still were pretty much privacy violating on the subjects ESPECIALLY creepshots and jailbait.
IN SHORT: the new version of 4chan's /b/
I remember last December when Chen posted a very educational article about how he believed that Christmas displays in stores were offensive to him because he believed it demanded him to be a Christian.
