Quite fitting seeing how close we are to the Force Awakens. Very interesting to see how incredibly hyped people were for this movie, compared to what people say about it today. Really hope history wont repeat itself in 2015.

Also, first time seeing trailer (was posted sometime ago, but still good fun):

And finally, (also posted before) the poor souls on the opening night:

I was there.
I was in line for 18 hours.
Saw the movie.
I don't want to think about it after.
I won't lie, camping in the rain under that sailboat tarp looks cozy.
I remember the first time I saw the Phantom Menace at the movies in 1999. I was in high school, a group of us kids went to go see it. After the screening one of the kids from our school that watched the movie with us committed suicide that night. Jumped into a moving train. So yeah.... that movie definitely leaves an impression on me. Movie sucked!
Holy fucking shit.
I quite liked the Phantom Menace when it came out. But then again I was 5.
As I child I enjoyed the Prequel Trilogy, but as I grew older and got exposed to the Original and then recapped onto the Prequel, you start seeing the things that it went wrong.
Holy fucking shit.
sounds like a whole lotta bullshit to me
Being 10/11 - Pod racing is fucking cool.
Being 25/26 - Jar Jar Fucking binks, WHY.

And those boring-ass camera angles in the pod race scene. Once you see it, you can never unsee it. Pan from left to right, left to right, left to right.
I don't know why people got so hyped for Phantom Menace unless they were fanboys. The trailer looked hardly even like Star Wars which should've been a red flag. I don't know for sure though, maybe its just hindsight.

mostly because it's obsessive nerds using media as a matter of identification because of lack of own traits and talking shit about your favourite brand is like talking shit about yourself
Disney buying Lucas arts is the greatest thing that's happened to star wars since the original trilogy.
Here's an excerpt from the "People vs George Lucas" documentary about Phantom Menace specifically. It talks about the hype, reaction, and fallout. It's a really good documentary by the way if you haven't seen it. It's all about the love/hate relationship fans have with Lucas.

This is why I'm cautiously looking forward to the new Star Wars. This has all happened before, including the extremely positive hype in the run up to the movie.

thats the guys fault, not the movie

okay it's okay if you don't like a movie doesn't mean you have to kill you're self

I want to screenshot this just in case the same thing happens again and everyone starts saying they could tell it was going to suck in hindsight.

I might be late to the party on this one, but I didn't realize how similar the opening shot in this trailer is to the opening shot from this trailer (not the Gungans in the mist, obviously):

Wonder if they did that on purpose when putting the trailer together.

I would own up and say that I absolutely thought it was going to work out
I mean its working for Marvel for damn sure, and Disney SO FAR doesn't have the messed up mentality Lucas had
so even if SW7 is a flop it's still better off because disney won't let it sit inside an old chest in an attic, only to occasionally repaint it with the same shit.
Lucas doesn't even give a shit about the originals. He feels like they were a mistake, so this is essentially a second chance for star wars to actually be something more than an old memory.

Yeah at absolute worst it'll probably be an okay movie, like a 6/10 solid popcorn movie.
Dude fuck that theater employee who got the first tickets. Those guys waited for days outside.

Yeah no one's talking about it but that's the most tragic thing in the whole video. I don't know if the fact that the movie ended up sucking made it better or worse for that guy
I can't believe how much it'd truly suck to wait days to watch this film only to be massively disappointed
I think that really adds insult to injury

I would be screaming at a picture of lucas

Frankly, I just trust JJ Abrams to make a really great movie. I don't think anything really will capture the magic of the originals, but it doesn't have to.
It's funny because I've got the same feelings with The Phantom Pain.
I watched all of it chronologically the first time. Hated the prequels and didn't want to watch the rest. Thankfully the people I watched it with forced me to finish.
The prequels were pretty good
As books

Did they change all the awkward dialogue for those or what?
Like the elevator scene and the sand stuff?

I actually have the entire book series somewhere, let me look for it...
[editline]26th October 2015[/editline]
turns out that I don't have it anymore, but from what I can remember there was some editing done.
I have confidence in the new Star Wars film. JJ Abrams has already made two really good Star Wars films, I don't see why his third would be any different.
