Australia was first settled by between 1,000 and 3,000 humans around 50,000 years ago, but the population crashed during the Ice Age before recovering to a peak of some 1.2 million people around five centuries ago, a study said on Wednesday.

They're my ancestors.

Do they have any idea at all as to where they came from?
I wonder if that was before or after the Human Revolution because they say it's either 30k years ago or 70k years ago

India/south east Asia.

Jail
I wonder if we'll ever have that referendum to recognise them as the original inhabitants constitutionally

uhh, aren't most australians descendants of english colonizers? Not Aborigines?
Just saying. I don't know what I'm talking about.

But it is so cool.

I would assume that this person is of aboriginal decent since they said those were their descendents.
Presumably by saying that he is implying he himself is Aborigine

Doesn't look like one from his Facebook that connects to his account here.

I'm native american but I don't look it. Chances are, he's not pure blood of the Aborigine blood line. Somewhere down his ancestry line someone probably hooked up with either a jailed person or some other person of another descent.

By the picture I looked at, it was someone very, very far up the line to have some blood in him. He's virtually all white.
Not saying he's lying. Just pointing it out that he doesn't look it.

I suppose the question is valid then. More as an inquiry of interest than an accusation.
There are people who get upset when people who don't look aboriginal validly claim aboriginal descent. Like Andrew Bolt for example. No one wants to be Andrew Bolt.
The Australian government did try very hard to get rid of Aboriginality in the early to mid 20th century much to our shame, there are many white aboriginals in Australia as a result of attempts to 'integrate' them into society.

I think it's a joke about the way the first white Australians wrote the word.
But it is so cool.
I only know one person who uses "Gaol" and they just like it because they're a History teacher :v:
I've never met anyone else, America, British, Australian, or non-English, who used the word Gaol.
It's always weird thinking about how ancient creatures possibly got to such remote locations.
its my land now the abbo's can come and take it back if they want it.

I use it all the time. It does confuse a lot of people though/
Even during the Ice Age, they banished criminal cavemen to the island.

Four generations ago (so my great great grandmother) was entirely native american, obvious in the cheekbones, etc - here's what I look like today. You can never really tell. Sometimes the genes that determine skin pigments and facial structures and whatnot will not be dominant - thus one can have a strong blood in a particular descent but not appear to have any connection with it.

I am quarter Aboriginal Australian.
My mums father was a full blooded Aboriginal.
Very recent ancestery.

No, it's still written that way in our media and often in scholarly articles and books.
Not a lick of Aboriginal blood in me, do I win?

Are you also white, middle-class, straight and male? If so you are playing Life on the easiest difficulty, so it should be easier to win.
The numbers didn't go down they were just assimilated and soon...the world will follow

Jake literally is the epitome of white, middle class and male and NEET. Not so clear on the straight part.
