I thought the ships were made out of LEGO at first glance.
I thought the ships were made out of LEGO at first glance.
I distinctly remember having a LEGO set that looked exactly like this when i was younger. I wouldn't mind that being a video game either.
I was really excited at first and ready to back until I realised it's pretty much multilayer based. Even though I enjoyed the MP in Descent 3 singleplayer throughout the series was still the best part.
Oh hell yes! Played a lot of Descent on my dad's pc when I was younger. [editline]12th March 2015[/editline] Hopefully I get to experience that same type of motion sickness
Oh boy, microtransactions too! I don't feel I can back this, I doubt it'll do the original trilogy justice.
FUCK YES
Wheres the Pyro GL
Pyro GX master race On one hand, I want a new descent On the other hand, that free Descent 1 remake project looked more like Descent, and it got C&D'd by interplay. I hope that orchestral OST in the trailer isn't what the game music is gonna sound like, that wouldn't fit Descent at all, it was always electronic/industrial
This isn't Descent at all, this is just some multiplayer only space shooter. And seriously, no Pyro? Only your own custom designs for ships? Lame. Don't use the name if you aren't going to make it a sequel or something similar, this is anything but Descent.
This is probably the fastest I've went from "OH FUCK YES" to "oh god why" When people asked for Descent, they didn't mean "Multiplayer-only space shooter WITHOUT robots"
So this is like Forsaken 64? if so fucking hell yes
Ugh. There have already been unofficial multiplayer spin-offs. It's all good and fine and someone will enjoy playing those I guess but seriously... the descent series never had any strong multiplayer focus. Setting up a multiplayer game in the very early 90s was a real hassle and few people bothered until the technology became more manageable. How hard is it to get this right? People who like Descent games enjoy shooting space robots in claustrophobic mining stations, ridiculous maze-like level layouts that require full 6-axis maneuvering to navigate and at least SOME similar designs. The fucking pyro for example, ANYTHING! The low poly robot drones offer a great opportunity for new, creative HD-reimaginings, why not at least TRY that? Also, multiplayer arenas require a fundamentally different layout than single player maps. I just want to fly around some freshly discovered corridor and realize that it isn't a new place at all, I've been there like 10 times, only that I'm FUCKING UPSIDE DOWN this time.
Sol Contingency might be worth checking out. It was a modern descent 1 remake on UDK but it got a C&D by Interplay but they are keeping the game the same and just replacing the descent stuff with their own stuff instead of shutting down. It'll basically be a sort of Descent spiritual successor (yes with SP) EDIT: It already looks a lot more like Descent than this thing does
Man, fuck Interplay. They C&D's Sol Contigency for this shit. I'm glad the SC guys are still going, though.
with my earlier few years spent on D3 multiplayer, I can certainly say you're wrong in that regard the only reason descent has any relevance today is mainly because of the descent rangers and the very slowly dying multiplayer community that survives off of an IRC chatroom and hamachi networks (Back in the day we used kQuery when PXO died), the multiplayer community for descent will be the last thing that'll ever go before descent fades into the IP graveyard
Sol Contingency came out yesterday, for real this time :goodjob: Can someone make a new thread on it on game section, maybe? Bloody deserves it !
