Looks like this video is sponsored by Ubisoft.
Did you know our pockets weren't large enough to accommodate all the dosh Ubisoft stuffed in them when we agreed to make this video?
I haven't been keeping up with this game but it looks quite good tbh.
This was actually really good, it's fun to hear more about the background behind choices made for the game. Things like how the rope launcher developed is very interesting, as I wouldn't have even thought about the building heights as a problem factor.
I wouldn't mind more sponsored DidYouKnowGaming's, as long as they're allowed to keep the objective overview type of videos they are.
Sad thing is this video is getting a shit ton of flak for simply being a paid promotion by Ubisoft.
Personally I'm not against accepting free money from a AAA Publisher, since you don't have to put alot aside from making a video showing the game off and talking about it, and maybe saying some positive quips here and there.
I mean if Ubisoft came to me and asked to make a video about one of their games for free money, I would.
That rope-launcher sounds cool as shit. Though I am a bit disappointed you can't assassinate historical figures, but I understand that families of them today can be offended by it.

What a stupid fucking reason. Its Victorian London, not the Vietnam/Korean war lol.

When you put thousands of thousands of dollars into your video game and someone get's offended, you do NOT want to get someone offended, not even a chance of it.
It's not a matter of doing for stupid reasons, it's just not taking a risk with one person getting unreasonable offended by a video game and calling their lawyers to sue for alot of money.

Yeah you're right. FUCK THE QUEEN! Not like she has any descendants right?
man that video reminded me of the magic of playing AC2 for the first time, now that was a fucking game.
this looks pretty sick honestly, if it actually goes through QA before release then ill probably pick it up

Who really cares honestly. Worse shit is portrayed in movies and fictional literature.

Lizards don't have feelings to hurt.
This video felt really slimy and I'm not sure who I am more disapointed in, Normalboots or Ubisoft.
Using a youtube series that focuses on older game series as an advertising front for a game not even released yet was a stupid move for both parties.

What's slimy about this? All Ubisoft did was go up to Normal Boots and say "Talk about our game a bit, maybe put a positive spin on it, and we'll give you guys free money for it."
When Game Grumps does it for Crunchy Roll or for an indie game it's more or less the same kind of thing. Even if the Grumps don't get paid for technically promoting Undertale, the developer still makes a shit ton of money from having the Grumps promote it, does that game the developer of Undertale, and by extention the Game Grumps slimly too?
It feels like it's "ok" when good people we like do it, but then it's EA and Ubisoft doing the exact same thing, it's some evil coproation from a kid's movie type shit.
If I had a popular youtube channel and I relied my livlihood, like others do, on my channel alone, and Ubisoft asked me to talk about their up coming game for free money, I would say fuck yes.

Honestly if each of you were approached by someone and told you'd be given guaranteed money for promoting a thing, you would all probably say yes, because it's free fucking money. Don't just say you "wouldn't because of moral obligations to noone", you would happily take that bag of money and use it for whatever you needed it for.

What's slimy about this is it's going against the formula for the sake of money and sales.
It is also funny that you bring up the Game Grumps who are quite notable for their reluctance/knowing disregard for disclosing what content they make is sponsored.
Regarding Game Grumps being slimy, I would argue they are way more slimy than what NormalBoots is doing.

You can speak for yourself regarding the upper part. For the later part you would totally be free to but know that your audience may not be so enthusiastic when you start bending your content to fit your sponsorship.

Honestly if you had an audience maybe you should probably have a bit more respect for them. I mean are you really arguing that native advertising is a good thing?

So what, Grumps and youtubers should just beg for money on pateron and shit, like that's any better? Why must there be this unspoken "code of honor" among content creators to never ever ever ever sell out even for one fucking videogame promotion?
The world doesn't run on pure love and happiness, it literallry runs on money and economy. The United States of America, is a Capitalist Nation, one where money is constantly flowing in and out of everything almost.
I see no grand major sin of the world, if Arin Handson decided to promote some Anime streaming site, because I still enjoy the regular content of Game Grumps, and everyone who works on it. Money doesn't make you some souless drone to some generic cartoon depiction of an evil coporation unless you allow yourself to be that way. Money doesn't turn people into Scrooge McDuck, people who have money allow themselves to turn into Scrooge McDuck.
As such, I see nothign wrong with paid promotions, The Grumps didn't care for it when they did Dead Space 3, I'm sure we're all gonna move on from this video when DYKG? releases their next video.

I'm sorry that I struck some sort of weird nerve you have when I said that bending content to fit a sponsorship deal seems slimy.

I never said that there is anything wrong with paid promotions specifically. What I said I didn't like was when content is bent to fit a sponsorship deal or when people don't disclose their sponsorships properly.
Well apologies then, but it's so upsetting and rant worthy to see people freak out when it's promotion on a channel they like from a bunch of people they think collectivly not to like at all, but barely a peep when it's a promotion from say Valve, or Bethesda, or an indie developer.
Like there's this invisible scout's honor to everything that keeps artists moral, and breaking a single rule for the sake of getting a few dollars to probably pay for food or housing equates to Judas selling out Jesus.

Game Grumps still got a bit of backlash for the sponsored shit, even though it was the biggest tongue in the biggest cheek possible.
From that one story trailer the plot looked like your generic AC deal. Templars are bad and control major places of power, we need to stop them.
So story-wise I'm not really interested. But the the game looks very nice and I dig the more vertical look. So far from the gameplay (ignoring some very bad animations but it was "alpha" ;) at the time) it seems like this mix of victorian GTA and Batman and sounds nice to me.
Unfortunately it's Ubisoft so my old PC has no chance running this with their great port history and that story trailer seemed extremely generic. GTA5's base gameplay was also pretty great but it was mainly the story that kept me going. I'm not of those players who love to just go nuts in open world games. At least not for long.

It has nothing to do with morality, to me it's more to do with keeping a level of quality and consistency that is expected of this channel that has thousands of subscribers who are mostly subscribed for interesting facts about older games. If I went to youtube one day and saw that the Forgotten Weapons channel (which makes interesting videos about antique weapons) suddenly got a sponsorship from Glock and started putting out reviews of modern pistols I'd feel alienated in a similar way.
Good to know you'd sacrifice consistency for a wad of cash but not everyone feels the same.

This is kind of what happened to the AWE Me channel, for me. I followed it because they made amazing recreations of pop culture weapons. They still do a good number, but the channel has become so oversaturrated with "EPIC HOW TO" videos, and "QUIRKY DIY PROJECTS." I became so disinterested in the channel, especially since even their weapon blacksmithing has gotten boring.
I played this at PAX, and it was pretty much just as bad as AC Unity. I wouldn't bother with this.

If Unity didn't bug out then it was quite good though.
Had this been released after the game and not been sponsored you would not be saying any of this.

Why does it matter if it sponsored or not?
Why does it matter if it sponsored or not?
Because it's one long ad disguised as content.
They better have learned from their mistakes on Unity, especially the PC version, to this date i still cant play it at decent frames on a GTX 980 classified OCed.
it was the first video i've seen that was about a game that didn't come out yet, but the facts were still pretty interesting. especially the one where they said they're taking inspiration from assassins creed 2, which was still my favorite game from that series.
ubisoft has done a lot of stuff, but i don't think they'd actually lie to dykg's interviewers about their game.
So, did they actually research all this stuff, or did they just read a script that came from ubisoft?
You know, after Ass Creed 3; you would have thought they would get the message about not having every other supporting character be a fucking immensely famous historic figure.
Oh but lets have Charles Darwin be part of the rag-tag group! They know him! He said people die in stupid ways!
But people didn't mind that basically every character in AC2 was super historically relevant?
I thought doing "missions" for Da Vinci like he's a GTA character was extremely dumb
But not every single supporting character was a historic figure.
