why should one rest a day before going into a workout that completely differs from the other? I mean, is a leg workout really going to interfere with an upper body workout?
no, but both those seem like they'd take a fucklong time, so it's probably so you're not at the gym for 3 and half hours
What the fuck? Flex? Wheeler? is it you man??

You shouldn't or, rather, don't have to. I suggest this schedule over your current split.
Monday: Upper body
Tuesday: Lower Body
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Upper Body
Friday: Lower Body
Weekend: Off

This workout is intended for cross-country training, so that means I'm always doing cardio every day of about 5 miles. I think if I followed your schedule, I would be way too sore. What do you think?

You should know how fast you recover. It's individual, so trial n error here.
