FRANKENMUTH -- A Mid-Michigan man has won a bid, and is walking away with a 2011 yellow Camaro for only $5.28.
Bavarian Motors put the car in an online auction through fastpennycars.com. Each bid costs only $0.02, and when it was all said and done, Jonathan Mason drove away with the winning bid.
“I was so excited that I screamed when it came up and said my user name had won the car. My wife didn’t believe me. She was trying to put the baby to sleep, and she told me to get outside if I was going to scream, because she didn’t believe it either,” Mason told NBC25 as he signed for the brand new car.
Bavarian Motors says this is just the first of many cars they plan to auction off. The next bidding on a 2012 Mustand GT will begin July 16th.
I bet next time they will up the starting bid.
Why can't stuff like this happen in my area!?
Shame it didn't happen a few weeks ago, I was up at Frankenmuth about two weeks ago.

Sounds like that company just lost a car, and gained some publicity.
What. How can they profit from this, other than getting publicity? The next car is prolly going for much more

You have to buy bids from the website. A dollar a bid I guess, then the bids you place are .02 cents each.
I wish I would win the bid on the Mustang GT, my favourite car. :smith:

Agreed, too bad it isn't a Mustang GT 1966 :v:
But considering that they stopped making those 45 years ago, that's highly unlikely :smith:
Hell, I'd take any car for 5$, even selling it to a junkyard will give me more profit.
the 2011 camaro looks a bit weird
This is one of those deals where you pay to bid. So one person out of all the bidders scores, and the seller keeps the bid money from everyone.
It's like playing the lottery. Most everyone taking part is just going to lose their money except the amount is so low many people don't care or think it's worth the risk.
Penny auction sites make me rage. I missed winning a ps3 for <10$ while I was doing a case study on them.

It should be noted that some/many of these online sites are scams. It isn't difficult for them to make up the winning bidder and never have to give anyone the item. Several sites have been shut down before for such conduct.

$0.02? Or .02 of a cent?
Oh wow, I live an hour away from Frankenmuth

How kind of you.
"Uhh... I have a ten, can you spare change?"
Extremely fucking obvious PR stunt right here, I can't believe you guys are falling for this and saying you want to bid. The publishers of this article should be ashamed and probably were payed to put this up.
Even if it was real, this will rake in massive attention for the site, thus more bids, and fun fact: you won't be getting cars for $5
I bet one of the $0.02 bids costs like $100 to buy.
I feel like, when he signed off for the car, he signed into some sort of agreement to pay the rest off.
No sane dealer would sell a brand new car for $5. Has to be a catch or the dealership wants to go out of business.
Did you guys even see the site? I doubt it's legit at all.
The guy probably ended up paying like way more, when you add up buying bids, earlier bids etc.
