I don't think I could take training seriously if I had to do that.

To be honest, we do that in the army around here too when doing exercises since there's no need for live ammunition. Instead of making pewpew-sounds we use terms like burst and shot though. Also our army is a joke anyway.

We did the exact same thing in the Finnish army. Imagine about 30 coastal jaegers lying on a hill shouting "PANG PANG PANG PANG" it was pretty awkward but we got used to it. [editline]3rd May 2013[/editline] And our NCO's screaming "[I]SHOUT LOUDER! IT'S FUCKING WAR!! AAAAH!"[/I]

When I saw them getting in the truck I was desperately hoping the driver would go "BRRUM, brmbrmbrmbrm *Beep* *beep* brmbrmbrmbrmBRRRRRRRRRRRM, BRRRRRRRRM...."

This is pretty standard in armies, especially in a quite poor country like Mali, where they probably can't afford blanks and only purchase live ammuniton to be used in fighting.

Training on a tight budget. Not the greatest way but whatever better than nothing.
