ESSENTIAL: The gym for members of the House of Representatives. The House gym reserved exclusively for lawmakers remains open during the shutdown. It features a swimming pool, basketball courts, a sauna and steam room. "This job is very stressful and if you don't have a place to vent, you are going to go crazy and that's why I've used it all these years,” said Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), who has been a user since 1973. While there's no towel service available during these tough times, taxpayers are still paying for maintenance and cleaning. The House gym for staff members, however, is closed.
NONESSENTIAL: Cleaning up toxic waste sites. Ninety-four percent of the Environmental Protection Agency's employees have been furloughed during the government shutdown. These nonessential employees include staffers who oversee projects like Superfund cleanup sites. The EPA has suspended cleanup at 505 toxic waste sites in 47 states.
Is anyone really surprised they're unwilling to cut things that benefit themselves?

No, but they can still get bent.
I didn't know they had a private subway
I want to ride on it

You haven't played Fallout 3s DLC?
Its such a useless thing. It probably leads to Paul Ryans Libertarian Utopia.
No, but they can still get bent.
I wouldn't be averse to them being sodomised with a cactus, it just strikes me as something that isn't out of the ordinary for politicians practically everywhere.

Reaverssssssss
At least Bruce Banner can take a swim, then work out as the Hulk...
They only do stuff like this because they know they can get away with it.
This job is very stressful
What job? :v:
(ok i know the government is still running, let me have my fun)
well... that toxic waste barrel has a lid on it so its probably fine for a while, but if they don't get their morning p90x the tea partiers would need to take a tea party mid-day instead of read green eggs n ham on the senate floor

the subway is actually vital though, because there's 454 of them and only a few offices left in the capital and no parking spots around the capital at all

the weird thing is only evil villans have monorails, now why would congress need monorails....
"we can not relax in the same way working class america does because our job is streeeeeeeessful :C"
fuck off
So cleaning up toxic waste is nonessential but the congressional GYM is? Are you fucking kidding me?
Here in Australia we haven't received much news on the US government shutdown. But isn't it time for the American people to start taking more action against the government. I mean you guys had the whole NSA issue, and now this.

It hasn't gotten to the point yet where people are starting to get desperate so nothing is probably going to happen, again.
Congress needs term limits.

arrest congress pls
fucks sake i'm sick of this shit. Our country is in the shitter and all they care about is their fancy gym and tram? I wish I had connections, so I could kidnap these fucks and make them live the lives the rest of us do. Poor, unhealthy, few luxuries.
I'm not familiar with the constitution or the American law, but why are people saying "Arrest congress?"
What the fuck are you people doing, people have uprooted their corrupt governments for less. You know damn well nothing is going to change by itself and you talk about wanting change all the time but do nothing.
Spoiler alert mate: We're not much better than they are
So when're we storming the Parliament Building then?
I'm not familiar with the constitution or the American law, but why are people saying "Arrest congress?"
because they're letting the country rot while still pertaining to their own "needs"
Cause of this whole government shutdown, my buddies in the military program can't even get paid their stipends. We can't even use our transportation vans for training because it's the government's property. And the last thing I want to hear is Congress's commodity labeled as "essential."
Once I get my moose back from the shop, needed a fix up.
Okay but I want to stop at Tim Horton's first

The people responsible for the disasters we've been having over the years keep getting richer while the 'normal' people are expected to keep picking up the tab. Congress shuts down several important programs but they still get paid, protected, housed, etc. While thousands of people get furloughed and the economy's growth shrivels.

Same reason the people of Rome didn't rise up against the Emperor every time something bad happened - they have their bread and entertainment.

I think you're getting Paul Ryan mixed with Rand Paul.

The shutdown isn't tangible to the average joes. Fearmongering only goes so far until you realize that in the short-term the only people being screwed by this are federal employees and contractors. The average person still knows their police department is functioning and their social security is safe.
The subway system may be important in case of a national disaster or terrorist attack on the capitol, I get that, but there's no fucking way that gym should be open.
